Lewis Fautzi has had a meteoric ascension in the global techno scene like a projectile fired into space at the speed of light. Establishing the norm of releasing on well-respected labels, in 2013 his first noteworthy edition came on Soniculture, a label from his home country Portugal.
From August 7th to 10th, Neopop Festival returns to Viana do Castelo to host some of the most exciting names in electronic music for an eclectic programme spanning two stages and four nights.
The festivities will once again take place just a few meters from the Atlantic Ocean in the breathtaking setting of Viana Do Castelo – the jewel of the Costa Verde. Portuguese techno producer Lewis Fautzi drops his fourth album on his Faut Section imprint this month comprising several leftfield cuts.
Having released two albums on Soma and another one PoleGroup, Lewis Fautzi is no stranger to the long player format. Launching Faut Section in 2013, Insanity Department is the labelâs debut album and follows an illustrious few years for Fautzi whoâs appeared on the likes of Bpitch, Warm Up and Figure, mixed PoleGroupâs sixth volume of âUnknown Landscapesâ, not to mention DJed at venues like Berghain, Gare Porto, Tresor and Lux FraÌgil to name a few.
Opening with the subterranean âInsaneâ, the album is a distinct blend of atmospheric textures and bold melodies forming seven refined tracks not geared for peaktime techno sets. Tracks like âConspiracyâ feature a stuttering beat and echoing notes whilst the intricate pitter-patter qualities of âPhysiciansâ generate a mesmerising aesthetic from start to finish.
Downtempo cuts like âDetermination Of Insanityâ steadily march forward whilst cavernous synths pulsate throughout, leading into the ominous âWounds Of Deadly Hateâ with its twisted drums and soaring synths. Nearing the end, âThe Science Behindâ is driven by murky pads and piercing chords until âObscenityâ concludes the album with syncopated kicks and uplifting arrangements.
