#TBT Series: Images of Tresor’s Location Inside Berlin’s Kraftwerk Power Station

Tresor, the iconic East Berlin techno club that opened on March 13th of 1991, is now located in the city’s Kraftwerk Power Station.

Over the past 25 years Tresor has created many historic moments in the musical and party history of the city. From Jeff Mills’ first sets on three turntables, to the grandiose Tresor Park parties, to various chapters of the Loveparade with Sven VĂ€th in the 90s and since then countless generation-spanning parties, that represented for their visitors the highlights of their personal clubbing experiences. The history of the club was always eventful and not without complications: from the temporary closure by the authorities in the early years, to several raids, all the way to the closure and demolition of the old location in 2005, as well as the years of wandering in exile and the resurrection in the new location Kraftwerk Berlin.

The institution has released five images of their new more permanent location within the building. Spread across three floors, the unique location hosts parties with events taking place ever Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Lineups are techno-heavy with extreme focus on guest and resident acts that play high-caliber sets that go deep into the next morning. The pictures contained herein are of the floor in the venue that was used for Tresor’s 25 Year Anniversary weekend and other more one-off events such as Atonal, a space that will be used more often from now on on top of the existing rooms, which include the famous vault in the basement.

While you may recognize the space, as it has been used for sporadic larger scale events in the past as well as art exhibitions, Tresor has announced that it will be used more often as an event space for its techno-heavy lineups.

Check out some amazing previously unreleased images of the venue below and read here for more in-depth history of the club.

Kraftwerk’s Transportation Rider Leaked and It’s Amazing

Someone has leaked Kraftwerk’s transport rider and it’s both amazing and hilarious, as expected!

The iconic veteran German group is currently immersed in a world tour, having just finished a string of UK shows. In recent years the project has incorporated their historic past catalogue with modern technology and art, playing shows around the world to a great reception.

Not surprisingly, Kraftwerk’s transportation rider is 100% Kraftwerk. Highlights include requesting cars with “suave breakers” and for drivers to not play the radio or  — under any circumstances — ask for an autograph.

Court Decides That Kraftwerk Buenos Aires Show Will Go On

Kraftwerk Band

Good news for Kraftwerk and electronic music fans in Buenos Aires: a court has reversed the decision to ban this month’s 3D show by the German dance music outfit.

Despite an initial approval, last week city officials decided to ban a Kraftwerk show planned for November 23rd at the Luna Park Stadium, referencing the much broader ban on electronic music festivals enacted by a local court following five deaths at Time Warp Argentina this past April. When the Kraftwerk show was denied permits, city representatives reasoned that while it was not a dance music festival per se, it was regarded as one as the music used “synthesizers or samplers [are] their primary instrument.”

Argentine news outlet ClarĂn has now reported that a Buenos Aires court reversed the decision allowing for the show to go on. Judge Lisandro Fastman made another important statement, asking for a revision of the original ban on large electronic music festivals so that the language is clearer and much narrower. At the moment it’s not clear what specific changes will be made to the original ban, although the Kraftwerk show will go ahead as planned.

Kraftwerk Gig in Buenos Aires May Be Canceled Due to City’s Ban on Electronic Music

Last year Buenos Aires’ electronic music scene was hit hard following six deaths at Time Warp Argentina.

The city’s Mayor decided to take matters in his own hand by banning all electronic music festivals and shows in the Argentinian capital rather than addressing the issues that were pertinent to the specific tragedy at hand. While this was an unfortunate repercussion at the time, the likes of which we have since seen plague other parts of the world with the highest-profile case involving fabric in London, it appears that the fallout from the incident is far from over.

Buenos Aires’ extant ban on electronic music shows could now cause Kraftwerk’s forthcoming concert in the city to get canceled. Despite the show’s promoters, Move Concerts, arguing that a Kraftwerk performance should be considered to be different than the type of event put on by Time Warp, it appears that they could truly be forced to cancel the gig.

According to local newspaper Clarin, Concerts released a statement saying, “They use synthesizers but the proposal has another format: a concert for all age groups lasting one-hour-and-a-half to two hours; and soft drinks are offered. There will also be no alcoholic drinks served.”

Move Concerts were reportedly given permission to begin selling tickets back in July, and have so far sold roughly 70 percent of allotted spots for the 3D audiovisual show scheduled at Luna Park Stadium on November 23.

Sadly, two weeks ago the Government Control Agency (AGC) informed the promoters that the show would need to be canceled, “After Time Warp, Judge Lisandro Fastman’s court ruling prohibited all electronic music festivals. Because of that, and despite the fact that they presented their paperwork with the required 30 days notice, we cannot authorize the permit.”

Move Concerts have appealed the decision and are currently waiting to hear back.

A Man in Florida Changed His Name to Kraftwerk

It is not entirely uncommon for huge fans of music to name their children after their favorite artists. But what about changing your own name to that of your favorite musician?

A Florida man has done just that, changing his name to Kraftwerk and documenting the process via photo-sharing site Flickr, leaving no doubt that he is a massive fan of the seminal German electronic music band that headlined Movement in Detroit this past May and is touring the United States again this coming September.

Kraftwerk ID

The photo album depicts the man wearing the same recognizable red shirt and black tie combo worn by Kraftwerk while performing. The pictures begin with the man’s new driver’s license clearly showing his name change, followed by several activities including driving, record shopping (for Kraftwerk vinyl obviously), having lunch, sharing a coffee, filling up his car with gas and yes, even sleeping all while wearing the same outfit.
