It’s not easy to talk about electronic music, and especially so when the genres in question are house and techno, mostly instrumental and oftentimes devoid of lyrics.

The lack of vocals make it easy to get lost in a sea of technical adjectives and meaningless explanations. We should let the music do the talking, sure, but what about the producers and DJs… what do they think?

We have collected ten of our favorite DJ quotes from some of the best producers, DJs, record label owners and promoters in the game:

Last week Jackmaster made news for his public apology, citing inappropriate behavior at this year’s Love Saves The Day Festival.

Following the Facebook post a number of allegations began to surface as to the behavior alluded to in his apology, including that the Scottish producer had defecated in a kettle at the festival, leaving it to staff to discover and deal with. Due to the peculiarity of these allegations the subject went viral on social media, followed by a string of other rumors on the subject.

All this has since prompted Jackmaster to clarify the matter with a second statement of his own, which came out together with an anonymous statement by a Love Saves The Day staff member, and a third from the festival itself.

All three statements are below:

Jackmaster Admits Prior Ignorance and Speaks Up Against Misogyny in Music Industry

Glasgow’s Jackmaster took to Twitter today to voice his newfound stance against misogyny in the music industry.

In a series of tweets, the Scottish DJ admitted prior ignorance and apologized for it, calling himself a prick for previously thinking that there are “loads of successful female DJs doing great.”

He went heavy in his last tweet before hitting the sack in Bali, where he is touring, “Big men with little dicks jealous of ladies with talent, intelligence, integrity. Trying to shoot them down. Im off to bed haha”

See the full exchange of tweets below, as well as Scuba, The Black Madonna, Josey Rabelle, Midland, Dustin Zahn and more weighing in on the subject:

As scheduled, CRSSD Festival has released its Spring 2017 roster and its possibly its best one to date.

As per previous formats, the San Diego waterfront festival continues with its mission to provide an eclectic experience with emphasis on more “underground” sounds of house and techno, as well as deeper strands of electronic music that aren’t found on other festival main stages.

Positioned at Waterfront Park in the city’s downtown area, CRSSD sold out both of 2016’s editions and with this lineup release looks set to repeat the feat for the third time in a row. Live acts this coming March 4th and 5th include Blood Orange, AlunaGeorge, Recondite, Bob Moses and Dusky making their live debut on the West Coast. Highlights in the house and techno realm include Dystopian boss RĂždhĂ„d, Innervisions’ Âme, Scotland’s ever-popular Jackmaster, crafty selector Midland, the wizardry genius of Damian Lazarus, CRSSD alum Skream, 2manydjs and an extended set by Seth Troxler b2b Eats Everything. On the more diverse side of the lineup, the Ocean View stage is set to feature Flume, Snakehips, Giraffage and Duke Dumont.

On top of its music programming and idyllic location, the 21+ festival has also become popular for its craft beer selection, top-tier local gourmet food options and impeccable mixology program.

Tickets will be available on December 27th at noon via CRSSD’s Official Website.

Mondays may bring us back to the office, but also bring us quality music from the weekend’s action throughout the world.

This week’s Music Monday selection comes courtesy of this past Friday’s Essential Mix action. Featured on the esteemed BBC Radio 1 show hosted by Pete Tong were two live recordings from Manchester’s Parklife festival held earlier this month on June 11th and 12th.

The first hour is a no-holds-barred Chemical Brothers performance featuring hits such as “Chemical Beats” and “Swoon,” while the second part is a special b2b set by Jackmaster and Armand van Helden. This is the first Essential Mix by The Chemical Brothers since 1995, a twenty-one year wait.

Listen to the latest Essential Mix directly via the BBC Radio 1 Player, or via SoundCloud below.

For one, I think I should be the poster child for Hard’s “We go HARD” campaign. Hard Day of the Dead 2015 wasn’t just two days of dancing at a festival, it was complete and utter nonsensical raging to banging electronic music across the board. While the crowd is less than ideal, it’s the insane lineup and variety that keeps bringing me back for the sake of music. Read more
