Q&A: Zepherin Saint Readies to Release “Hurry” EP with Sara Devine

Zepherin Saint launched Tribe Records in 2008 with the motto of “One Sound, One People”, they since have breathed new life into dance music with their unique worldly approach to their sound.

The forthcoming Hurry EP is a melting of minds between two musical souls, as producer Zepherin Saint joins forces with the exquisite R&B vocal star Sara Devine, who together have created a heavenly slice of dance floor Soul. Sara is one of Zepherin’s favourite House vocalists and he has been a fan of hers ever since hearing ‘Take Me Home’, produced by Masters At Work. Having performed together in the UK some years ago, they kept in contact and were waiting to find the right time to record together. This soulfully intoxicating outing comes ripe with sun drenched afrocentric rhythms, where classy brass arrangements and warm key melodies laid over a sublime urban bass groove provide the perfect soundtrack for Sara’s delicious vocals to seamlessly glide

Doorly Discusses All Things Los Angeles and the Launch of His Reptile Dysfunction Label

There is no denying that Doorly is a man on the constant move. Kevin Knapp Talks About His Love for San Francisco and His Forthcoming “Find Me” EP

Austin-bred, San Francisco-schooled producer, DJ and vocalist, Kevin Knapp has emerged from the ever-bustling electronic music scene of the Bay Area to become one of the most exciting up-and-coming artists in today’s house music scene.

Versatile in his productions and DJ sets, Kevin takes no prisoners with an approach that sees him always striving to get the dance floor rocking, with releases on labels such as Hot Creations, Dirtybird, Poker Flat, Sanity, Lost, Viva Music and Truesoul a testament to his prowess and prolificness in the studio. A man of many skills, the US born artist started out by DJing in San Francisco for notorious clubs such as Werd and Housepitality and after relocating to Berlin his career catapulted and a global touring schedule ensued.

On March 17th he is scheduled to release his next EP entitled Find Me and introducing Baby Luck aka Brittany Ballard, who makes her first ever vocal recording for this project. Distinguished for his jacking house cuts, Kevin has a created a deeply charming EP, reinforcing his position within the dance scene. The four-track release, which is all originals, will be coming out on Rebellion, one of Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels sister labels, and includes two tracks that were premiered by Pete Tong on the same night during one of his esteemed BBC Radio 1 Friday night shows.

PL0T Miami Celebrates 10 Years of Cutting-Edge Underground Electronic Music Events

Ten years is an eternity when it comes to electronic music event brands. It is rare for clubs to stay open that long, so for an individual party brand to be able to stand the test of time and break the decade mark is a testament to the quality of their programming and overall party curation.

This Saturday, March 18th, PL0T Miami is celebrating their 10 year milestone with a special event at The Electrick Pickle in Downtown Miami. For the special occasion, the party curator has organized a lineup featuring none other than Innervisions extraordinaire Âme, label-mate Marcus Worgull and the Miami debut of Moscoman.

Q&A and Premiere: Aggborough Discusses No Real Value’s Musical Ethos and “The Rhubarb Triangle” EP

The Rhubarb Triangle is an area in Yorkshire, England, that is considered the forced rhubarb centre of the world, and it was there where William Green, aka Aggborough, captured the set of various field recordings which now forms the backbone of No Real Value’s latest release. For those not familiar with No Real Value, it is a label whose 12″ outputs all include pieces of music by Aggborough himself, as well as other leftfield underground electronic music producers, based around a particularly unique set of field recording samplings sourced by Aggborough.

No Real Value’s second outing focused on metal detecting, while this third release pinpoints the location of the field samplings and uses that, as well as  the characteristic Yorkshire dialect and wildlife, to produce a stunning four-track vinyl release. Each piece includes various sounds captured during a recent trip to the Martin Parr exhibition at the Hepworth Wakefield, as well as to the Yorkshire sculpture park the next day. The listener will find ambient sounds from the gallery and wildlife from the park, as well as other human sound recordings juxtaposed against those of giant metal sculptures vibrating against the wind.

Are We Taking The Underground Scene Too Seriously? – An Interview with Austin Gebbia (Dear Morni)

The mere mention of clubbing and nightlife evokes thoughts of dark rooms, a dance floor filled with black-clad partygoers, sunglasses and a sense of elitism that would put the Royal family to shame. In all fairness, it’s hard to not imagine nightlife, and in particularly the techno scene, as a truly serious affair. But is it really?

Early last year, I encountered a seemingly bizarre Twitter account that used the handle @DearMorni. Whoever this Dear Morni was, they clearly enjoyed making crude yet pin-pointed jokes at the expense of the DJs, clubs, and really anything that was dance music related with a focus on underground house and techno. The more tweets I read, the more I laughed. The jokes were all brutal yet innocent, and always contained at least a pinch of truth. Most were accompanied by haphazard memes that were also getting love on Dear Morni’s Instagram account. The photoshop job on each was boorish but I could sense it was part of gig  – there was sure nothing serious about Dear Morni.

C.Vogt Debuts on All Day I Dream with “Purple Hills” EP

Chriss Vogt, known as C.Vogt artistically, is the latest addition to Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream team.

Classically trained, the versed producer just debuted on the esteemed label with Purple Hills, a 3-track outing that includes the title track, a remix of it by now label-mate YokoO and a collaboration with Patrick Jeremic entitled “Pour Éternel.” The son of renowned violinist K.Vogt, Chriss discovered music at a young age, learning the piano and the saxophone before moving to electronic music and releasing on other well-known labels such as Visionquest and Get Physical before adding All Day I Dream to his extensive resumĂ©.  You can stream the EP below and find it for purchase on Beatport.

Q&A and Premiere: Dunmore Park Releases Debut “At Midnight” EP on Substation Recordings

This past week Andrew Williams aka Dunmore Park released his first soulful composition on Substation Recordings, a four-track EP titled At Midnight. Born in Edmonton, Canada, Williams is embodies the definition of a true electronic music devotee: he is the co-founder of the city’s first electronic music production school, Night Vision Music Academy, as well as Western Canada’s first electronic-based music convention, the Alberta Electronic Music Conference, and all of this is on top of his projects as an artist. His latest such project, At Midnight, is his attempt to combine both classical and modern notes, a feat he accomplishes to brilliant results by producing a subtle warm journey from Canadian winter to the blooms of spring season.

Each of the four original tracks that form the release reflect various experiences of Williams life, including the music he was exposed to living in Europe as a child, his travels to ancient cities as he went through his formative years and more recently his exploration of Canada as an adult. As such, At Midnight is a musical narrative that takes the listener through Williams’ own life journey, one that begins with with deep melodies and emotions and ends with dominating basslines and mystery.

Q&A and Premiere: Milo McBride Releases “Antika” EP on [par‱ka]

New York City producer Milo McBride is dropping his Antika EP on [par‱ka] this coming March 14th.

Antika is Milo McBride’s debut tanz-floor release. From peak-time to the after afters – each track exists solely to serve the dynamic night clubbing experience. Drawing influence from his experiences with an eclectic range of musical styles–from punk to juke–Milo makes post-apocalyptic electronic beats for the dance floor and the bedroom. His production employs sounds from various pockets of the world: sonically combining deconstructed digital sounds with organic instrumentation and field recordings. Combined together, these textures map out the emotional territory a futuristic wasteland similar to that of Mad Max, but with laptops and pills.

Out on vinyl and digital (check out Juno), Antika is composed of three originals and an Acid remix by Peter Fonda. The digital release includes “Phul,” a bonus fifth track which we are premiering today.

Cari Golden: The Voice of the Underground

Cari Golden may not be an electronic music producer or DJ, but she has been just as essential an artist in some of techno and house’s best tracks of the last several years.

Singer, songwriter and a true voice of the underground, Cari has contributed to some exciting tracks and remixes by artists the likes of Coyu, Trent Cantrelle, MANIK, DJ T., Maceo Plex, Groove Armada and Sydney Blu. The Los Angeles-based artist has some exciting projects in the future including the launch of her own record label and studio projects with Vincenzo, Ryan Crosson, Roger Sanchez and more.

We had a talk with her in Los Angeles ahead of what is looking to be one of her busiest years yet.
