Digging Deeper with Ilario Alicante

Following on from his debut EP on Drumcode earlier this year, Ilario Alicante returns to Adam Beyer with a generous 6-tracker entitled Figures & Echoes.

Hailing from Livorno, Italy, Ilario Alicante has enjoyed something of an unintentional Ibiza kinship with Adam Beyer. When the Swede played his special annual sets on the Amnesia Terrace for Cocoon, for three years out of four, the Italian has been right there playing alongside him, ensuring his talents were on the radar of the Drumcode chief. Thus, it makes sense then that his most recent release comes out on the iconic Swedish label.

We took the time to speak with the Italian producer and DJ to dig a little deeper into his relationship with the label as well as his home in Livorno.

Figures & Echoes EP is out now on Drumcode and available on Beatport.

2017 has been more than kind for Weska. The Canadian-born producer, who now lives in Berlin, has been busy in the studio pushing the kind of dynamic techno that has gotten him attention from labels the likes of Octopus Recordings, Suara, Kraftek and Tronic, all the while securing a residency with Eric Prydz at HĂŻ Ibiza as well as playing Creamfields UK this past summer.

Despite being just 25 years old, Weska has gone on to impress industry heavyweights such as Adam Beyer, Eric Prydz and Christian Smith, a testament to his quality both in the studio and in front of an audience.

With this amazing year coming to an end and releases on Tronic and Odd Recordings added to his resume, 6AM took the time to dig deeper with Weska about his life in Berlin, genre pigeon-holing, his relationship with Prydz and more.

Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 091 feat. the Mambo Brothers

It’s been a fantastic 2017 for Ibizan DJ and production duo Mambo Brothers. They have just released their new single “Control” which has been one of Pete Tong’s biggest tracks of the week on BBC Radio 1 and are coming off their first ever residency at the newly-opened HĂŻ Ibiza.

For those not in the know, Christian and Alan Anadon, better known as the Mambo Brothers, were raised in the clubbing utopia of Ibiza. As the sons of the founders of Cafe Mambo, they were exposed to some of the best DJs in the world from an early age as they soundtracked the iconic sunset spot. They started their journey DJing at CafĂ© Mambo’s sister bar Savannah, warming up for legends like Roger Sanchez and Carl Cox, later going on to share the decks with more of the biggest names in electronic music when they “upgraded” to the world-famous CafĂ© Mambo decks. As producers they have enjoyed successful releases on Toolroom Records, Armada Subjekt and Saved Records, just to name a few, receiving the deserved respect of taste-making heavyweights Pete Tong, Annie Mac, MistaJam and Danny Howard.

To top it off their year they now join the Global Vibe Radio family with a special one-hour mix, and sat down with us to talk all things Ibiza as well as their single “Control” which is available for order here.

Jeff Derringer Looks Ahead After Battling Cancer

The last time we interviewed Chicago-based producer, DJ, and Oktave boss Jeff Derringer was in September of 2016. A lot has happened in the world, and with Jeff personally, since that time. He played fantastic gigs at Bassiani in Georgia and Berghain in Berlin, and we even had the pleasure of hosting him in Los Angeles for one of our WORK events.

This past summer, however, Jeff was forced to take a break from performing to fight a relapse of cancer. This meant undergoing major surgery to remove the tumor and lymph nodes in his neck, as well as post-surgery chemo and Proton Theraphy. When he announced the unfortunate news on social media, Jeff made a promise to himself, “I’ve beaten this dreadful disease once before and I fully intend on doing so again.” Needless to say, he fought hard and kept his word following several harsh months that required him to take a step back from touring and his involvement with Chicago’s techno scene as a Smartbar resident and head of Oktave.

The great news is that Jeff is back behind the booth and ready to tour once more. Not only that, but he took what was undoubtedly an unfortunate situation and made the most of it, using the down-time at his disposal to produce music and launch Oktave Records, a goal of his that he had had for quite some time now. The label debuted with Jeff’s very own Control EP, featuring three originals from the man himself, and also kicked off a podcast mix series that has so far hosted quality techno the likes of Iori, Altstadt Echo and Annie Hall.

In light of all of this we decided that it was time to sit down with Jeff newly and go through everything that has happened in the second half of 2017, as well as to look ahead to the future that is now surely ahead of him!
