Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 128 Feat. Albert van Abbe Live at Elevator, Shanghai

We travel to the Netherlands for this week’s Global Vibe Radio episode, and to Eindhoven to be exact — the birthplace and home town of rave veteran Albert van Abbe.

Albert has been involved in many different musical and audio-visual projects over the past 17 years and is currently focused on making absorbing techno under his own name, while pushing his long-standing DRUM parties and celebrating the launch of his very own DRUM record label.

Van Abbe has found a unique creative niche where manic percussion, searching synths and wide open soundscapes exist in perfect harmony. There is a serenity to his music that is soothing and calming, while at the same time, arresting and experimental.

Besides his own labels, he has released on tasteful outlets like FIGURE Jams, Semantica Records, Deep Sound Channel and Trolldans. Van Abbe is a DJ as well as live performer, speaking volumes through his machines. He played shows at Berghain, Awakenings, Tresor and DGTL just to mention a few. When not crafting melancholic and salubrious atmospheres of his own, he brings this depth outwards, hosting events titled DRUM in Eindhoven and abroad.

Van Abbe was kind enough to offer us the two-hour recording from his recent set at Elevator club in Shangai for the VOID crew, and to chat with us a little about his recent Asia tour, life in Eindhoven, his newly-launched DRUM label and more.

Premiere and Q&A with Joel Mull: “Techno Keeps Us Young”

It is no secret that here at 6AM we have a soft spot for Parabel label co-founder Joel Mull. Our respect  for the Swedish techno veteran is one that is both professional and personal, born out of our experiences hosting him in Los Angeles for several of our WORK x Incognito collaboration events.

One of the pillars of the Swedish techno scene, Joel has been producing and playing techno for two and a half decades, having released on some of the world’s biggest techno labels. His musical integrity is a source of admiration from fans and peers alike, while his down-to-earth and passionate approach to techno makes him \, without the sheer of a doubt, one of the nicest artists in the game.

It is thus no surprise to see legendary producer/DJ returning to the well-respected Mary Go Wild imprint, with a Gorgon EP containing 3 mesmerizing original tracks and a remix by Amsterdam’s JP Enfant.

On top of premiering the title track for 6AM followers exclusively, we took the opportunity to have a chat with our old friend to talk about his busy 2018 and what’s coming up for an artist that has seemingly already done all there is to do in our industry.

Q&A: Brett Gould Releases on Solardo’s Sola and Lee Foss’ Repopulate Mars

It’s been a big year for Brett Gould, with a release on Idris Elba’s 7Wallace label, his Get Down EP featuring a Huxley remix and flying up the Beatport top 50, on top of other releases on Glasgow Underground, Under No Illusion and Sola.

This heavy output has garnered him some mammoth support along the way from the likes of Claptone, Roger Sanchez, Prok & Fitch, Josh Butler, Richy Ahmed, De La Swing, Raffa FL and Riva Starr, who actually asked Brett to mix Snatch’s ‘Best of 2017’ compilation.

His track “Crazy”, came out on Solardo’s Sola label this past August, right as he was in the midst of busy summer gig schedule that also saw him perform at Privilege in Ibiza. Since then he has contributed “Orange 92” to Lee Foss’s Repopulate Mars, for the label’s Repopulate Stars Summer V/A compilation that will be released this Sept 21st, available for pre-order HERE via Beatport.

And to think that his summer took off on the heel of a fantastic guest mix for 6AM, which you can listen to again below!

Top top it all off, we had a small chat with Brett to talk about his summer and recent prolificness in the studio.

Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 126 Feat. Joachim Spieth

We are honored and proud to welcome Affin boss Joachim Spieth for his Global Vibe Radio debut.

It’s hard to summarize Joachim’s accomplishments in a few words. Calling him a talented producer is barely scratching the surface,  considering his large discography that began with early releases on Kompakt and continues on, over a decade later, with top-quality tracks featured on his very own Affin imprint.

His career has brought him to perform in a myriad of countries, including Australia, Denmark, France, Georgia, Iceland, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Russia, South Africa, the UK and more — a testament to the respect his DJ sets have gained over the course of his long career.

But beyond his stellar work as an artist, it is his output as the head of his label that is even more recognized by peers and music aficionados alike. Joachim created his label Affin to be as independent as possible and focus on his own vision, surrounded by artists with a similar vision such as Keith Carnal, Svarog, Reggy Van Oers, Deepbass, Ness and Toki Fuko.

In honor of Joachim’s contribution to Global Vibe Radio we took the chance to talk with him in depth about his work as an artist, as the head of Affin and much more.

Q&A and Premiere: Esker Debuts on Voitax With “Destruction Time Again” EP

Forgoing traditional melody and song-writing, Esker’s distinctive sound focuses on the interplay between noise, texture and rhythm. Voitax is happy to present her stunning debut Destruction Time Again EP, which was assembled from various recording sessions over the past two years.

Formerly a drummer and guitarist in various bands in Melbourne’s noise scene, the influence of her past is evident in this record – a combination of processed guitar, mangled samples and bizarre, ghostly synthesis form a deep and complex sonic space. The effect of almost a decade in Berlin is just as clearly heard in the EP’s thumping techno pulse. Wielded with a drummer’s feel for timing and meter, phasing rhythms, crunching lo-fi percussion and thundering kicks provide a solid backbone. Having become absorbed in techno culture, this is her contribution.
