Digging Deeper with Gettoblaster

Residing in the underbelly of U.S. dance culture are Gettoblaster, staunch conservationists of the classic ghetto house and tech sounds that arose from Chicago and Detroit. They formed in 2014 over their shared background and influences, solidifying their studio bond with an arsenal of tracks perfectly engineered to keep modern crowds on the dance floor whilst maintaining the soulful elements that made them fall in love with dance music in the first place.

The infectious energy they poured into each of their releases caught fire quickly among underground dance heads, leading to the formation of their own label not long after their formation. Today, the duo maintain a heavy touring schedule, where they’re regularly seen in dark, raw spaces bringing the heat onto the dance floor.

Their latest release sees them joining forces with DJ Funk—one of ghetto house’s original pioneers and greatest purveyors. Landing on DIRTYBIRD following a jaunt at one of the campouts, “Get Dat” is a steamy piece with jacking bass and percussion that fits well into both the artists’ and the label’s aesthetic.

Curious to dive deeper into their philosophy, we grabbed Gettoblaster for a chat on all things ghetto house—with some cheeky questions at the end.

Playlist & Interview: Rodriguez Jr. and Liset Alea Discuss RJLA Collab Project Ahead of Cityfox LIVE Debut

The Rodriguez Jr. & Liset Alea musical partnership arose from a prized encounter between history and destiny. Born from the excitement of a magical cliff-side performance, it’s also the result of 15 years of friendship, and fuelled by the inspiration that comes from two already very successful musical careers. With Liset Alea a former vocalist for Nouvelle Vague, and Rodriguez Jr. an elite club producer fresh from his ‘Baobab’ album, the time was right to unite and discover new horizons together.

The destiny of the new project is one that is guided by emotion, inspired by the spontaneity that comes naturally from two such experienced live performers, and driven by a desire to stretch musical boundaries beyond clinical club beats. RJLA is about sonic storytelling and songwriting, as well as fusing the organic charms of live instrumentation with cutting-edge music for the dancefloor.

The history of the project is one that is already well established. The pair met 15 years ago during their time creating music for Laurent Garnier’s legendary F-Communications, working on several projects together that included music synced on major television series like Entourage and Beverly Hills 90210. Both musicians stand out for the rawness and unpretentious enthusiasm they bring to their live performances.

More recently, the pair came together when Liset helped write several tracks on Rodriguez Jr’s ‘Baobab’ album this year. The collaboration proved so successful that they both knew there was something more to it. All will be unveiled in 2018 with fresh music, international shows and more, beginning with their North American debut at Cityfox LIVE. Known for bringing in some of the brightest talent in the world to NYC, this event will be bringing in a host of never-before-seen b2b sets and audiovisual performances to Brooklyn with a focus on live sets across all acts at Avant Gardner on February 16. Tickets for Cityfox LIVE can be found HERE.

We decided to sit down with both Olivier and Liset to discuss RJLA, and to ask them to provide 10 tracks they feel represent their project and the message of Cityfox LIVE.

BCFHBH: 5 Italian Artists Who Have Influenced My Career

Born in Huntingdon, United Kingdom, and raised in Pisa, Italy, BCFHBH started his musical journey at the tender age of 11, meddling with his parents vinyl collection that brought him to discover the wonders of electronic music. Influenced by the underground urban sounds of the UK his sonic experimentations take him through various genres and his love of sound and cinema eventually lead to his work as a re-recording mixer in the cinematographic realm. This will deeply influence his music production as musique concrete, ambient, drum & bass and techno will play a fundamental role in the sculpting of his sound: organic naturalistic but always electronic based.

In 2015, his first Disordered EP that has been released on Introspection Recordings, represents the mixture of cinematographic workflows and urban sonic landscaping. In the subsequent years, these influences are pushed even more as he opened a post-production studio in Rome.

We asked him about ‘Kin’, which will be out on Introspection Recordings LTD 001, and he had this to say:

Lorenzo Magnozzi: 5 Italian Producers Who Have Influenced My Career

Eclectic, multifaceted and hypnotic, Lorenzo Magnozzi presents himself with the slogan “music is freedom of introspection.”

For him, music is an elementary presupposition necessary for life, an instrument of liberation and love. He was born in Pisa, a great Italian city for art, in 1992 and fell in love with electronic music very early listening to the old rave recordings of the Italian techno movement of the ’90s and coming into contact with artists such as Sven Ricardo Villalobos, Plastikman, Underworld , and Luciano. Lorenzo took his first steps in the DJ booth around 2006 at the young age of 14, and his passion for music since lead him to fall in love with music traveling to clubs and festivals around Europe, from Frankfurt to Ibiza, from the UK to the Netherlands, and from Spain to France, collecting vinyl records from all over the world, discovering new places, new people and new sounds.

It would be unfair to categorize his sound, it’s an introspection of himself and his constant personal developments. With tracks played and supported by many international artists such as Ricardo Villalobos, Dana Ruh, Raresh, Tobi Neumann and Nastia, Lorenzo has gone on to give life to his record label called Introspection Recordings, launched in 2005 as a platform of and for artists and musicians, a fusion of music and art, a union of all the elements, physical and psychological to create a single identity. His DJ sets are the result of creative and inventive research that can vary from House to Techno, through the most diverse sound atmospheres that create environments where reality overcomes imagination.

We asked Lorenzo to look back at his career and share with us 5 Italian artists he feels have made an indelible impression and influence on who he is today as an artist.

FORM Music head honcho and French DJ/producer POPOF starts 2019 as he means to go on, with the release of his long-awaited debut EP on Kaluki Musik now available on Beatport.

Out now via the esteemed Manchester-based imprint, the two-track Kronic EP is yet another masterclass in immersive, energetic soundscapes from an expert producer at the very top of his game.

But that’s not all for POPOF’s start of the year. Following the much-lauded release of his Reformers VA extended player in 2017, the Frenchman has now released the second instalment of the critically acclaimed vinyl-only series – Reformers Vol. 2. The vinyl-only package features four of the heaviest cuts released on FORM Music over the course of 2018, and is available for pre-order here.

With such an explosive start to 2019 it seemed fitting for 6AM to grab a quick chat with the man-of-the-monent to discuss his recent releases and what lays ahead of him for the rest of the year.
