Discovering Noisily Festival: An Interview With Festival Director Charles Audley

Charles Audley is a busy man around this time of year. As the Director of Noisily Festival, he has overseen a period where the gathering has morphed into one of the UK’s most respected and eclectic such offerings. After all, there are few other places on earth where you’re as likely to hear d&b, techno, psytrance and bass music in such close proximity to one another.

What’s more, Noisily Festival operates with a seriously eco-friendly conscience, and for those reasons alone we tip our hat to them. We caught up with Charles recently, as he gave us the lowdown on one of the UK’s best-loved and passionately followed musical extravaganzas…

Ardalan's music

In Interview: Ardalan’s Music Takes Him to the Slopes for Altus Festival in Lake Tahoe

Ardalan’s music taste first evolved thanks to his early travels between his birth city of Tehran, Iran, and his now home in California. In his travels, he collected a multitude of mixtapes containing gems that spanned a broad selection of genres such as gangsta rap, Italo disco, and movie and video game soundtracks. As he got older and made the permanent move to California back in 2006, his constant quest for that rare musical gem brought him to discover electronic music and dig deep into the underground scene of San Francisco, eventually discovering the Dirtybird BBQ and being brought into the collective with open arms.

Fast forward to today, and the producer/DJ is constantly touring dropping musical gems in clubs, festivals and parties throughout the country and beyond. Ardalan’s music has been heard at Coachella, Dirtybird Campout, CRSSD, Secret Garden, Desert Hearts and at esteemed venues like Space Miami, New York’s Output, Spybar Chicago and Detroit’s TV Lounge, just to name a few.

Fresh off of an album release tour promoting his Mr. Feel Good LP, Ardalan readies to perform for the debuting Altus Festival in Lake Tahoe later this month. There he joins a star-studded lineup that includes big brother Justin Martin, Bonobo, Doc Martin, Mr. G, Lee Burridge, Derrick Carter and many more, all of whom will be performing between the 18th and 21st of March at several locations throughout the area, with attendees shredding on the slopes during the day and dancing at night.

Information and tickets for Altus Festival, where you can hear Ardalan’s music at the Ardy Pardy, are available here.

But does Ardalan skii or snowboard? How was his album release tour? Has he ever been to Lake Tahoe? All these questions and more are answered in our interview.

Pfirter

In Interview with Pfirter: Studio Collaborations, Back-To-Back Sets and the Evolution of MindTrip

For the past fifteen years Argentinian-born, Barcelona-based producer Juan Pablo Pfirter has been pushing a sound that is undeniably steely, dark and uplifting, true to the founding principles of the techno’s tetramorph but eager to throw his own vanguard, personal touch into the mix.

At the end of 2019, the label boss was talking about a busy year ahead for MindTrip and now we know exactly what he had in mind.

Fresh and new collaborative projects will debut on the label in 2020, starting with Pfirter’s powerful shared EP with Oliver Rosemann who is no stranger to the world of MindTrip. Together they go as dark as they feel across 4 impressive cuts on their Alpha release, blending peak time-intensity with Industrial grooves and dark side body music their own way.

Alpha becomes the first of multiple collaborative concepts that will expand further over the year, with 2020 looking to truly be one of the busiest years for both MindTrip and label chief Pfirter.

6AM chats with Pfirter to learn more about what’s in store for him and his label in the coming months…
