Premiere: Listen to Mark Rogan’s “Phase 1” Off Tribal Phases EP on Intec Digital

The latest Intec release is from Mark Rogan, a Northern Irish artist whose dark and driving style of techno has been a feature of labels ranging from A.Paul’s Naked Lunch to Rebekah’s Decoy Records.

Based in Belfast where he forms an integral part of the cities underground club scene, the Tribal Phases EP is Mark Rogan’s first release on Intec, and with two solid tracks to show, we doubt it will be his last. Listing a diverse range of influences, Rogan first discovered rock music before moving over to trance, and finally settling on his long-term love of techno, where he lists key influences such as The Advent, Speedy J, Ben Sims, Dave Clarke and Joey Beltram.

First on the release is “Phase 1” that starts with deep pad stabs layered over fast flowing percussion. Claps add energy to the groove whilst rushing ethereal pads add atmosphere and create tension. Timeless with a subtle tribal influence, this up-tempo slice of techno is reminiscent of early Intec releases from the likes of UMEK.

The second track “Phase 2” starts with the gritty sound of a raw percussion loop layered under piercing synths and vocal stabs. Classic in its structure this track going back to the roots of techno with it’s rough around the edges sampling techniques and sound design, but in the process delivers a wonderful sense of nostalgia with a distinctly modern twist.

Carl Cox is an industry figurehead who’s legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell.

Following recent releases from the likes of Boris, Darren Emerson, Cristian Varela and Tomy DeClerque, this new collaborative EP presents Olly Davis and Carbon Electra.

From a young age Northern Ireland born Olly Davis had a fascination with rhythm and grew up playing the Irish Bodhran Drum. Getting older, he soon discovered electronic music and his love of percussion translated well into the sequenced loop of a drum machine. Picking up DJ residencies and playing for nights such as Defected In The House, Cream, and Ministry Of Sound, Olly has supported some of the world’s biggest DJ’s including Carl Cox who has signed him to Intec after spotting his talent both behind the decks and in the studio.

Olly, who now lives in Australia, has previously released on Rawsum, Hausity, Witty Tunes, plus Sam Devine’s label D-Vine Sounds. This collaboration with Carbon Electra showcases why Carl Cox considers him to be such a talent. Carbon Electra is a secretive artist making their debut release with this stunning collaborative EP.

The latest release to come from Carl Cox and Jon Rundell’s Intec Digital label is a two-track EP entitled Blacklight from Drumcomplex & Roel Salemink, who since their first appearance on the label in 2014 have been two of Intec’s most popular artists.

Q&A: Discovering Stephan Hinz

Stephan Hinz

A prolific producer for over a decade, Stephan Hinz is entering 2017 with a bang by introducing his fans to his brand new Off Numbers EP. Out on Carl Cox’s Intec Digital, Off Numbers follows on Stephan’s hugely successful previous releases on labels such as MOOD and Second State.

Out on the 27th of January, the EP comes in the form of two originals, both centered around heavy basslines and growing, frenzied crescendos. The title track is tenebrous, its hard-hitting drums a throbbing and threatening proposition that is augmented by a repeated melody. On the other hand, “Shaded” focuses far more on its bassline, interrupted by eerie percussions and metallic noises.
