Saudi Arabia Live Nation

Live Nation Stock Purchase by Saudi Arabia, Human Rights and Artist Integrity

This month’s most-talked-about music business news was certainly the $500 million purchase of a 5.7% stake in Live Nation by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) on Monday, April 27th. It has been impossible to not raise an eyebrow over the Live Nation stock purchase, considering just how much the entertainment industry has shunned Saudi Arabia since the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last October.

The gruesome murder was allegedly ordered by Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to reports by U.S. and Turkish intelligence agencies — charges that Salman denied. The murder led Endeavor chairman Ari Emanuel to cancel a $400 million investment into his talent agency and content company and caused many in Hollywood to sour on the prince who had billed himself as a reformer in the powerful Arab country.

This type of senseless behavior is not only abhorrent, but extremely short-sighted too.

If we were able to freeze everyone in the world 6 feet apart from others they don’t live with for the next 14 days we would have beat COVID-19, and while that is unrealistic, getting as close to that as possible is the entire goal of the various lockdown and stay-at-home policies Government officials are implementing around the globe.

Taken since the inception of 6AM in 2008, we have been able to develop and follow key principles that have helped us knock down barriers, break through troubled times and reach our goals in the electronic music industry while continuing to hit key milestones every step of the way.

The information contained herein has helped shape who we are today and represents what we stand for in the global electronic music industry. We are far from perfect, we are constantly learning and always working to improve. More importantly, we need a constant reminder of these guidelines ourselves, which is also part of the reason we are publishing this article. Producing an electronic music event is no easy feat. There are a million and one things to properly execute that could go wrong at any time. From taping down the power cables to artist pick-up, many factors contribute to a successful, or not so much, experience.

We’ve done our rounds of event production and know there are common professional audio pitfalls at electronic music events of all sizes and kinds. Subtract Music founder Anton Tumas has been DJing and curating his own events for years now, gaining valuable experience in the process as both an artist and a party-curator. We put our experiences together to compile a list of common issues that can arise at any electronic music event,  and thus could be thought of and prevented beforehand.

Learn from our own and other’s mistakes. A lot of these issues are resolved simply by hiring a competent sound company to do the work for you.
