Thousands of dance music fans are planning to make the trek to Ibiza this summer to pay homage to one of the scene’s greatest, Carl Cox, as he embarks on the final Music Is Revolution journey of his career before Space Ibiza is turned over to the group that owns UshuaĂŻa across the street.
Although the Intec Digital boss has announced his desire to continue playing on the island as a guest DJ, 2016 truly marks the end of an era with the Final Chapter becoming one of the hottest nights of the entire season. While many will be visiting the Space dance floor during one of the 15 Tuesday dates planned for the next coming months, thousands of others won’t be able to make the farewell celebrations.
It is for exactly this reason that live streaming service BE-AT.TV has jumped in to provide coverage of the entire 15-week season, bringing you two rooms direct from Space Ibiza every Tuesday, all night long.
Undoubtedly, Carl himself will be the main event of each party and live stream, but as a bonus this year’s final Music Is Revolution lineup is the residency’s largest yet, with the worldâs biggest underground DJs paying their respects to the big man each week with their own unique take on house and techno. You will be able to see some of the industry’s best name in action from the comfort of your home or office, no matter where you are in the world: Luciano, Chris Liebing, John Digweed, Nic Fanciulli, Sasha, Adam Beyer b2b Ida Engberg, Joseph Capriati, Dubfire, Nicole Moudaber, Pan-Pot, Kerri Chandler, Loco Dice, Carl Craig, Nina Kraviz, Marco Carola, Matthias Tanzmann, Joris Voorn, Josh Wink, Monika Kruse, Marco Bailey, Danny Tenaglia, Francois K, Masters At Work, Yousef, Kölsch, Tania Vulcano, Cirez D, Guy J, James Lavelle, Cirez D, Carlo Lio, Julio Bashmore, Catz N Dogz, Davide Squillace, Hot Since 82, Deetron, tINI and DJ Sneak are all scheduled to play.
Things will start off on Tuesday June 14th, with the closing party scheduled for September 20th. Simply tune in at www.BE-AT.TV and enjoy the music! Although streaming lineups for the entire season aren’t released yet, below is the list of artists confirmed to be featured in the first three weeks:

If I mention the words “David Guetta” to anyone I party with these days, the instant reaction is that of a raised eyebrow and looks full of scorn and contempt. Joking aside, the truth is that although the French producer and DJ currently (and for the last 6 years) epitomizes the world and sound of EDM, he used to be a true symbol of 90’s and early 2000 house music.
Plenty have debated on Guetta’s change throughout the years, but the truth is that history clearly underscores his role as one of the mid-90’s pioneers of French house. Back then, he made a name for himself as one of the key influencers of Parisian nightlife as both a DJ and promoter of nights at such renowned Paris hot spots as Folies Pigalle, Queen, Bataclan, Palace and Les Bains, where he invited legendary names in the house like Little Louie Vega, David Morales, DJ Pierre and Roger Sanchez to join him on the turntables.
His first two albums, “Just A Little More Love” in 2002 and “Guetta Blaster” in 2004 preceded EDM both in sound and scope. Sandwiched between them, Guetta released his “F*** Me I’m Famous” compilation, which famously went gold – a definite big achievement for a compilation effort at the time. The sound of those first two LPs were decisively electro-pop, in no small part influenced by the likes of Depeche Mode, Dear Or Alive and New Order. “Guetta Blaster” heralded the beginning of Guetta’s true foray into the world frequented by the urban, popular artists that were soon to collaborate and influence his sound for the years to follow.
But before then, in the distant 90’s, Guetta’s sets were influential and a true representation of the house sound that permeated France, Europe and by default the iconic Balearic island of Ibiza. Below is a video of Guetta on the decks of Space Ibiza in the late 90’s, a perfect illustration of just how much things have changed in the fifteen odd years that have passed since.
Seems hard to believe? Check out Guetta’s 1992 track “Up & Away” feat. Robert Owens and released on Dance Pool. The garage-inspired house track made waves at the time, a true testament that Guetta is capable of not only playing true house music, but producing it as well.
Yet, it is perhaps Guetta’s first recorded single – a 1990 hip-hop collaboration with Sydney entitled “Nation Rap” – that best predicted Guetta’s current work with rap, hip-hop and pop artists in the form of today’s EDM, while demonstrating his versatility as a producer and DJ. Below is a video of the two musicians performing the single live on France’s FR3 TV channel back in 1991.

If you’re going to Ibiza this summer, and you should be, it will be harder to miss Solomun in action than it will be to catch him!
The Diynamic label head will of course continue with his +1 residency at Pacha, bringing along with him some of the biggest names in today’s electronic music circuit.
The news, however, comes in the form of two brand-new + Live residencies at Destino and Ushuaïa. The format will be simple, each party featuring Igor Marijuan from Ibiza Sonica Radio at 4pm, a Diynamic label star playing warm up between 6 and 8pm, a special live guest set performance from 8pm until 9pm, and the grand finale with Solomun playing a set of his own.
Things start off later this month on June 23rd at UshuaĂŻa, with guest sets by Pig & Dan and Dynamic family member H.O.S.H.. The party will then move to Destino on July 28th with Innervisions’ own Henrik Schwarz and Diynamicâs Karmon. On August 11th, Solomun will be joined by Wagon Repair chief Mathew Johnson and label mate Musumeci. It will then be the turn of Rodriguez Jr. and Undercatt to take be featured on the 25th, Kollektiv Turmstrasse and Adriatique at UshuaĂŻa on the 14th of September and finally Stephan Bodzin and a return set from H.O.S.H. to close out the summer on September 21st.

Electronic music fans around the world have been preparing for what is set to be the last summer of Carl Cox’s Music Is Revolution residency at Space Ibiza.
At first, it was thought that the legend would never play on the Island again, possibly retiring from DJing and touring altogether. Cox has since told the world, via a cover interview with Mixmag, that none of those rumors are true.
In fact, the British icon will not only continue to tour, but will still be featured in a few Ibiza lineups throughout the summer of 2017 and subsequent years.

The 2016 Ibiza season is officially underway. DC-10 recently opened with the famed Circoloco event, and many more of the island’s super clubs are preparing for their openings over the next few days. However, there is a level of anticipation and curiosity surrounding this season; certainly much more than years past.
For starters: Â Richie Hawtin isn’t returning with his ENTER residency, Space has been taken over by Ushuaia, and Ibiza is implementing a new tax for tourists visiting the island, among other headlines. But what got everyone stirring late last year was the news that all clubs would be forced to close no later than 6:30AM. While this may be more than reasonable at clubbing destinations all over the world (generally speaking), it does not align with the ethos of Ibiza’s long standing culture in electronic music.
To drive the point home further, Amnesia Ibiza has issued a statement to notify everyone of changes to their opening programming. In years past the club has been allowed to go well past the normal closing time, but there are more rigid regulations in place this year that will cause the venue to be flexible in their scheduling for the 2016 opening. Amnesia Ibiza will now be opening at 4:00PM to abide by the new regulations while still conducting their famed 14 hour opening.
The official statement from Amnesia Ibiza reads as follows:
“OFFICIAL RELEASE: AMNESIA OPENING
We need your support!
You will never dance alone friends and promoters; We are Ibiza!
10 years ago, we had to fight alone against the schedule restrictions on the clubs and the “afterhours” prohibition in Ibiza, that supossed to us the sanction to close for 1 month in 2007.
At this year 2016 and trough the constant pressures by the institutions of the island, restricting the scheduleÂŽs clubs to promote other interests and having accepted and paid all the fines that have been imposed us and deny one more time the exceptionality of a morning schedule for the Opening.
Although donÂŽt share the decision of the official institutions and before this drastic negative, Amnesia has decided to accept it and change their Opening time from 16: 00h to 06: 00h, producing 14 hours of music followed with new additions on the final Line up as Ricardo Villalobos, Pan – Pot and many more surprises to celebrate the biggest party that Ibiza has seen in a long time and will never forget; because, despite the continuous obstacles and disadvantages that put us on the road, we will fight that the magic continues in Ibiza and avoid that the music stops.
Finally, we apologize for the constant changes of schedule, due to external causes that have wanted to avoid the most important event of the summer that has held and affected many of you personally.
* You can use this hashtag to manifest your impressions and opinions about that, whoever you are.
See you on the 28th of May, family!

DC-10’s summer schedule is once again filling up quite nicely. While Mondays will forever remain Circoloco‘s sacred ground, Wednesdays are now firmly dedicated to Jamie Jones and his Paradise brand.
Starting on June 22nd and ending on September 14th, the 15-week residency spearheaded by the Hot Natured producer will once again have a designated theme throughout the season, “A Virtual Trip” which is essentially “animated artwork based on a 1980s virtual reality world.”
The lineups for each night have been released. The residency starts strong with an opening party that features Dubfire, The Martinez Brothers, KiNK and Nicole Moudaber and ends with Hot Since 82, Mood Swin II, Skream and Eats Everything. In between, a collection of top-tier names will be joining the 80’s themed madness including Luciano, The Black Madonna, Cassy, Ryan Elliot, Ăme, Sasha, John Digweed and many, many more. See the full line-up below.

As our #TBT Series feature from last week covered, Ibiza has been a popular destination for travelers and ravers for decades now. As the years have progressed, however, electronic music as a whole has seen a tremendous boom with resultant increase in popularity of Ibiza as a party destination. With that we have seen a rise in enormous luxury hotels, bottle service and a general VIP culture permeating the island and almost obscuring the true magic that Ibiza can offer.
A group of people on the island has decided to take back the authentic side of Ibiza by launching Save Ibiza, a website that aims to support the island’s family-run businesses and provide the authentic Ibiza experience beyond the VIP culture.
I have traveled to Ibiza myself five times and always encourage friends making the trip to push themselves beyond Platja d’en Bossa, the clubs and popular beaches. There are tens of secluded and picturesque beaches a mere 30-45 minutes drive away from anywhere on the island, family restaurants with amazing menus, locally sourced ingredients and honest prices, and an entire list of non-clubbing activities to take advantage of.

Save Ibiza gives you the tools to experience the island as a local, providing accommodation resources, a list of real-feel Ibiza eateries, a selection of non-club party options and perhaps most importantly of all, a series of activities that push you to explore the island and look beyond the confines of Space, Amnesia and the other popular nightclubs there. The website provides a local voice for the community with a specially dedicated blog that touches on a series of subjects anyone making the trip to the Balearic island should be familiar with: vegan food options, free local festivals, kids activities on the island and ways to help preserve the true nature and spirit of Ibiza.

If you’re traveling to the island check out the website and plan your trip accordingly. Your visit will be so much more rewarding if you push yourself to see beyond the clubs and VIP culture present on the surface!
Visit Save Ibiza’s website for tips on how to best plan your trip to the island while saving money and helping local businesses grow.

That Space Ibiza is about to undergo massive changes is not news. Last year it was announced that Pepe RosellĂł’s 27-year reign as owner of the club was ending following the 2016 summer season, after which the club’s lease will be taken over by Matutes Group, the owners of UshuaĂŻa across the street. Following the announcement, Richie Hawtin decided that ENTER.Ibiza would end its residency at the club, while Carl Cox made it abundantly clear that 2016 would be the last summer for Music Is Revolution on the island, citing RosellĂł’s departure as head of venue as one of the primary reasons for this change.
There has been a lot of speculation since on the exact future of the venue. We know that RosellĂł currently owns the world-famous Space Ibiza brand, and when asked about plans for the space in the coming years, the CEO of Palladium Hotel Group and VP of the Matutes Group, Abel Matutes Prats stated, âWhy change when we donât have to?â
He told told the Diario de Ibiza, “We want to take care and continue with the project to make Platja d’en Bossa an entertainment area.” He went on to categorically deny rumors that Space would be turned into a shopping center, specifying that the clubâs current âclass 41â license limits the venueâs uses to leisure and recreation. This means that it cannot be turned into a hotel or merchandise operation.
What did become clear from his interview, is that while exact plans aren’t decided yet, the club will be turned into an operation that mostly caters to the same audience UshuaĂŻa attracts. That is a more VIP-centric crowd than Space has been known for.
He specified, âObviously we want to keep it as a club, but also want to dedicate it to the audience in which we are now focusing, which will be complementary to UshuaĂŻa.â

This year’s UshuaĂŻa residencies are predominantly EDM-focused, with only Ants on Saturdays dedicated to more underground sounds. The rest of the week sees David Guetta take over on Mondays, Hardwell on Tuesdays, Axwell and Ingrosso on Wednesdays, Steve Aoki and Oliver Heldens alternating on Thursdays, Tinie Tempah on Fridays and Armin van Buuren on Sundays.
It is unsure whether Tale Of Us’ new Afterlife residency, which starts this summer, will continue on once keys for the club change hands. This may truly be the last season to enjoy Space Ibiza as we have all known it, after which it may be time to say goodbye and prepare ourselves for the changes the owners of UshuaĂŻa will introduce.

This week’s #TBT Series installment takes us back 27 years to the heydays of Ibiza partying, and to one of the most revered clubbing destinations in the world: Amnesia Ibiza.
The 5,000 plus capacity venue opened in 1976 and is one of only two major clubs on the island located close to the village of San Rafael, half-way between Ibiza Town and San Antonio. While the infamous open-air terrace is now closed, sunrise still peeks in through clear windows to welcome some of the most memorable sunrise sets on the island today.
By the end of the 80s, Amnesia had undergone massive changes after over a decade of operation. Dance music was playing through the speakers and major clubs on the island had introduced the concept of open-air dance floors. Balearic house was gaining major traction thanks to legendary acts like DJ Alfredo Fiorito (also known simply as DJ Alfredo) and DJ Huggy MacPherson, who both held major residencies at the San Rafael nightclub . Their sound took a while to catch on with Ibiza crowd at first, but later became focal points of the club’s expansion thanks to a blend of rock, pop, soul, hip-hop and proto-house that had never been played on the island before.
While in 2016 we are seeing island government pass laws forcing clubs to stop music at 6:30am, in the late 80s Amnesia opened at 3am and went through to midday or later. British house music DJ Danny Rampling famously recalled, âAmnesia was a complete revelation. Alfredo, as a DJ, blended texture and music in a way I would compare to a Miro painting. For me, he was the Larry Levan of Europe. Interestingly, Alfredo was connected to an American who was part of the Paradise Garage group, who used to supply him records. Dancing in the open air, surrounded by an incredible mix of sexy people was mind-blowing.â
Paul Oakenfold was another famous name hooked on the Ibiza club during that time, recalling how its sound stood out in contrast to London and the rest of mainland Europe, âIn England at that time, clubs only played one type of music, and London was full of attitude. But at Amnesia you had 7,000 people dancing to Cyndi Lauper. Total freedom.â
Amnesia was the destination clubbers would choose when other venues shut down, driving inland for a taste of music and experience unlike any other that existed at the time. In those years, the club was surrounded by massive white washed walls with a large mirrored pyramid in the middle of the dance floor; the bars were around the sides as was plenty of cushioned seating for party goers to chill out on. As you can imagine, this was before bottle service was truly a thing.
The open-aspect layout of the venue meant that up to 7,000 revelers flowed in to enjoy an eclectic selection of music under the Mediterranean air and stars, all the while being engulfed by exotic plants and like-minded ravers from all over the world. There were no laws, with people dressing up, drinking and rampant drug usage – anything was allowed; it was clubbing freedom at its best.

Amnesia’s nights ultimately took a pivotal role in the future of British clubbing of the late 80s and early 90s. Oakenfold, Rampling and fellow London DJs and club promoters Nicky Holloway and Johnny Walker would visit during summer and return back to England influenced by the sounds and atmosphere of their Ibicencan experiences. Oakenfold launched invite-only “Ibiza-inspired” nights that began at 2am following his hip-hop sets at a a club in Streatham. The success was so big that each member of this crew all moved onto to establishing their own successful clubs and nights: Oakenfold started Spectrum, Rampling started Shoom and Holloway started the Trip. The sheer popularity and boom of their ventures went on to shape an entire series of raves and parties all over England and beyond – while it would be unfair to say that those wouldn’t have happened without Amnesia, it would also be unjust to not credit the locale that provided that initial artistic spark and inspiration.
Below is a series of videos from Amnesia’s Closing Party on October 3rd of 1989. Needless to say, Alfredo Fiorito was behind the decks, with Adamski playing live on the piano and Boy George also present in the building that night.

Fresh off a near 24-hour solo set at Sunwaves in Romania, Marco Carola and his Music On team have announced the lineup for their summer residency at Amnesia Ibiza.
The party is celebrating five years on the island and is one of the most sought-after destinations for partygoers in search of techno, tech house and house music. This year, those visiting Amnesia on Friday nights will be treated to music by a series of esteemed residents that include Stacey Pullen, Paco Osuna, Apollonia, as well as Music On regulars Leon and Neverdogs. While some of the additional guests are still to be announced, Sam Paganini, Green Velvet, Paul Ritch, Matthias Tanzmann, D’Julz, The Martinez Brothers and Dubfire are all set to play throughout the summer.
Music On boss Marco Carola is scheduled to play the Terrace every night of the residency that begins on June 3rd and ends September 30th. Unlike previous years, it seems that he will not be playing any open-to-close sets although Terrace guest DJs for August 12th and September 9th remain unannounced.
