Sven VĂ€th’s iconic techno project Cocoon has announced that they will be moving to a new home in Ibiza.
In particular, the project will be moving to Pacha, the legendary club that brought parties to the island, changing Ibiza’s landscape in the process, beginning with its 19th season which is set to come this summer.
It’s been a fantastic 2017 for Ibizan DJ and production duo Mambo Brothers. They have just released their new single “Control” which has been one of Pete Tongâs biggest tracks of the week on BBC Radio 1 and are coming off their first ever residency at the newly-opened HĂŻ Ibiza.
For those not in the know, Christian and Alan Anadon, better known as the Mambo Brothers, were raised in the clubbing utopia of Ibiza. As the sons of the founders of Cafe Mambo, they were exposed to some of the best DJs in the world from an early age as they soundtracked the iconic sunset spot. They started their journey DJing at CafĂ© Mamboâs sister bar Savannah, warming up for legends like Roger Sanchez and Carl Cox, later going on to share the decks with more of the biggest names in electronic music when they “upgraded” to the world-famous CafĂ© Mambo decks. As producers they have enjoyed successful releases on Toolroom Records, Armada Subjekt and Saved Records, just to name a few, receiving the deserved respect of taste-making heavyweights Pete Tong, Annie Mac, MistaJam and Danny Howard.
To top it off their year they now join the Global Vibe Radio family with a special one-hour mix, and sat down with us to talk all things Ibiza as well as their single “Control” which is available for order here.
A child of the Acid House generation of the ’90s, Steve Lawler has been pushing the gender boundaries for decades as a promoter, producer, DJ and of course as the head of the infamous VIVa MUSiC founded in 2006.
A constant presence in Ibiza throughout the summer, Steve earned his first residency on the island by handing in a mixtape at Café Mambo and the rest, as they say, is history. He continues to remain at the forefront of the electronic industry by constantly innovating and curating, both as a party curator, a label manager and of course an artist himself.
We caught up with him during his most recent U.S. tour, where he played clubs such as Coda in Toronto, Heart in Miami, Beta in Denver and Output in New York.
Spanning 30 years of work in the electronic music world, Judge Jules‘ career is one that has touched all corners of the globe.
The accolades have poured in over the years, with Mixmag crowning him the #1 DJ, Dancestar Awards naming him the Best International DJ, winning Best Radio DJ from Smirnoffâs Dancestars and continually featuring in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll, peaking at #3 alongside the industryâs greatest. Judge Jules’ touch is multi-dimensional, and spans far more than just one area of the industry. He is a producer, a DJ, a radio host, a promoter, has worked record label A&R duties and has also been involved with quite the number of TV work.
In England Judge Jules ruled the radio waves with shows on Kiss FM and the iconic BBC Radio 1, and now his show The Global Warm Up is broadcast on over 70 stations across the globe including the colossal Sirius XM, and notches up a gigantic 750,000 downloads every single week via his podcast. And what about his famous Ibiza brand Judgement Fridays, formerly known as Judgement Sundays? The residency packed out its balearic home every week, with 15 years experience.
Somehow 6AM found the time to chat with Judge Jules in the middle of his packed summer schedule. Our aim was to dig a little deeper and talk about how he juggles it all, exploring the personality outside of music too.
The Ibiza crackdown continues as local officials have now moved to ban DJs and live music from a total of 16 beach clubs on the island.
The San José municipal town hall gave the marching orders to some of the most popular beach clubs on the island including Blue Marlin, Bora Bora, Coco Beach and others, all of whom cannot now host any events that feature DJs or live music.
The idea behind the move is to reclaim the beaches from the parties and dance music, after complains by locals and tourists alike that said beach clubs have been claiming portions of public beaches for their clients and kicking out regular beach goers with the use of security and bouncers.
Ibiza is synonymous with fiesta, an island made famous in three decades ago thanks to its open-air terrace parties at iconic clubbing institutions such as Amnesia and Space. Yet, in recent years we have seen officials in the island scale down on its daytime and open-air events, instituting a 6am sound curfew with penalties for clubs violating it as well as shutting down beach parties including events such as tINI & The Gang, Dynamic and Detroit Love.
Officials have come as far as to claim that the island cannot handle an increase of tourism, while residents keep using the leverage to contain the scope of the parties still going on.
However, things could get a lot worse soon. This is because of the passage of the new tourism law for Spain’s Balearic Islands, in which Ibiza is a part of. The law was passed on Tuesday and is set to be implemented soon, with an amendment made that would grant Ibiza and Balearic’s three other local councils the power to âregulate, determine or prohibit, in a reasonable manner, tourist activitiesâ related to entertainment. This would apply to any location that hosts musical events, including clubs, cafĂ© conciertos, beach clubs and ballrooms.
When we hear mention of the word “Ibiza” we think of some of the best nightclubs in the world and idyllic sun-kissed beaches.
Yet this past week something fairly unusual happened on one of the island’s most frequented and known beaches: Playa d’en Bossa.
An 82-year old man was reported to have been injured with a 2-inch wound caused by a blue shark, a species of shark that is usually prevalent in the Mediterranean Sea. He was rushed to the Can Misses Hospital for treatment of the deep wound. Fortunately, the man managed to have survived the attack without major injury and was released from the hospital about 4 hours later.
Brand-new Ibiza club Hï has announced its latest residency for the upcoming debut season that will see the club launch off in the venue that used to be the home of Space.
Previously announced residencies include Black Coffee, In The Dark, Eric Prydz, Martin Garrix presents Multiply and Glitterbox. This past week, the Playa d’en Bossa club owned and ran by UshuaĂŻa Entertainment announced “U R with Armin van Buuren, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano” on Wednesday night. The club’s website reads:

Carl Cox has announced the lineups for his two Pure parties at Privilege Ibiza.
It’s all raw house and techno, as the Intec giant is joined on Tuesday July 11th by techno dons Joseph Capriati, Jon Rundell and Eric Powell alongside underground favorites tINI, Fuseâs Archie Hamilton, man of the moment Eats Everything, Darren Emerson and newcomer irish techno DJÂ Hybrasil.
Next, on Tuesday 18th July, Cox brings in Intec label mainstay Nicole Moudaber, Berghain favourite DAX J, Pureâs Eric Powell, Panorama Barâs Cassy, New York house duo The Martinez Brothers, the essential deep house don Kerri Chandler and Ukrain’s Nastia.
Space is also provided for local Ibiza talent to shine, with Andy Baxter, Jason Bye, Clara Da Costa, Mr Doris and many more all joining in the festivities to set the mood when doors open early on.
