RA To Bring In Residence Party Series To 12 of the World’s Best Clubs

ra-in-residence-dance-floors

Famed electronic music publication Resident Advisor has announced its plans to celebrate 12 of the world’s best dance floors with an In Residence party series that will see them take up residence in 12 of the world’s finest clubs. Each residence will last a month, hosting four separate events that will showcase the uniqueness of each venue and their role in the local and international dance music community.

In a release statement, Resident Advisor tells us that, “without clubs, we have no club culture: the people, the sounds, the moments. Now is time to celebrate.” Fittingly, the celebrations begin in the city that started it all with the foundation of house music, and at a venue that has been the flag bearer for the movement for the past 34 years: Smart Bar Chicago.

The series will begin in March with a roster of high-quality selectors including DJ HarveyDJ Nobu, Eric Cloutier, Roman Flügel, Tin Man, Mood II SwingAnalog Soul and two of the club’s finest residents in The Black Madonna and Michael Serafini.

The series will then fly across the Atlantic to take over Paris’ Concrete, a boat venue that has been championing the French capital’s love of techno for years. Highlight guests include JackmasterMove D and Margaret Dygas, who will also be joined by a slew of top-notch local talent.

The third announced stop of the tour will be in neighboring Germany and more specifically at Offenbach’s Robert Johnson across the river from Frankfurt. The May take-over is set to play host to a mix of local talents such as Ata and Gerd Janson — and guests The Black Madonna, Mike Servito, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Jeremy Underground, Prosumer and Lexx stopping by for a series of back-to-back sets.

RA plans to unveil the next three clubs that form stops 4-6 of the series soon.

Experience a Disco and House Revival with the Legendary Return of Paradise Garage

film-project-about-iconic-new-york-club-paradise-garageThe name Paradise Garage elicits the not-so-distant nostalgia of the glamorously raw beginnings of a musical genre known as House in the growing hustle and bustle of the electronic music scene on the streets of New York City. It all began when Larry Levan and company took to the decks of Paradise Garage in 1977 and established a melting pot of musical influence drawn from the prominence of UK garage and American discothèques at the time as well as the subversion of cultural identities in favor of the dance floor. 20 Years of House in Los Angeles with Sacred Grounds

Los Angeles Support 20

Dance culture has evolved at a rapid rate around the world; some countries faster than others, but each rich with their own unique history. Where some cultures have developed a very specific sound, Los Angeles has always been a diverse melting pot of musical ideas and groups. Amidst the musical diversity, however, one thing is certain, and it’s that Los Angeles has and always will have deep roots in the underground rave and house scene.

This Labor Day weekend will mark a very special occasion for the Los Angeles scene too. Sacred Grounds, one of the most influential house music collectives in LA, will be celebrating their twenty-year anniversary with none other than Doc Martin and Mark Farina. The two house veterans are gearing up for a 2 x 6 open format back-to-back, with a few additional surprises for the live set.

In light of this monumental occasion, we sat down with Sacred Grounds founder, Carlos Gdubbs, to get an expansive history lesson on 20 Years of House Music in Los Angeles. From his early foundations in the underground, we move through topics and stories ranging from his first official party to the territorial divide of the 90’s, eventually leading us to where we stand today, 20 years later. Erick Morillo “Something for Carl Cox” out on Subliminal Records

ErickMorillo21

“I have never had a record given to me with my name in the title! It’s always a hard thing to do because of the expectations of that, but Erick came up with an amazing track that I would play in my sets in clubs or festivals, as it has the Coxy sound which I love to play. It’s funky, pumping tech-house energy and I feel very proud to play this track. Thank you Erick!” – Carl Cox, July 2015

Just released on Subliminal Records, Erick Morillo’s track Something for Carl Cox is a banging tech-house tribute to the techno powerhouse producer. The track is energetically fresh with a sexy piano stab near the end, making it an ideal tune for the club or beach party.

Erick Morillo is a celebrated legend at the roots of house music and will be making the rounds this year as a monthly resident of Space Ibiza. Morillo tested the ropes of the track at Space Ibiza and Ministry of Sound, and Carl Cox himself dropped this huge tune at EDC Las Vegas and at Light Nightclub last month.

You can stream Something for Carl Cox below or purchase the track on Beatport.
