NicolĂČ and Reda of the Italian duo Aderal refuse to learn how to DJ. Instead, the two prefer to do everything live on hardware. The resulting sets range from classic raw techno to broken-beat rhythms â from industrial to jungle and everything in between. This mix is an hour long dive into their signature sound and their first to debut on a US channel. Read more
This week’s featured Global Vibe Radio mix artist is Tunnel, an anonymous DJ and producer that embodies his mysterious motto of, âThrough the darkness, towards the light within.” The mix is a live recording from Tunnel’s performance at Overlook NYE/NYD in Minneapolis.
Since 2013 the Chicago-born Tunnel (Ryan Miller) has released over 80 releases for record labels devoted to gritty, industrial-laden, innovative techno and experimental music – labels such as Gegen Records, House of Reptile, Etichetta Nera, and his own imprint, Webuildmachines.
French live duo Chambord have been bubbling up in the studio for a while, so no surprise that their recent live stream has had 102,000 views to date and rising. Fundraising for Bye Bye Plastic, performed at a mysterious UNESCO site in France, the stream delivered spectacularly compelling material and a sincere yet effortlessly cool vibe.
Tim and Pierre met in high school in the French countryside, and fast became friends when they discovered their shared love for music. Their first âgigâ was at their end-of-school gala, and they have been playing together ever since at festivals and gigs worldwide. Labels include Flying Circus, Sol Selectas and ABRACADABRA.
With their live set-up and resulting performances a sight to behold, we asked Chambord to take us in their studio and show us their favorite pieces of hardware.

We love this synth, itâs the first one we bought. Itâs a safe bet we recommend to any new talent who wants to start producing. You have Lead, Bass, Pad, Arp, FX and so on ⊠Itâs very complete. You can also explore your sound and give them the colour and depth you want. Good news is that itâs not very expensive so itâs a perfect starter friend.

Since we started out, we always wanted to get a Moog. We like the sound, we love the design, it looks as beautiful as it sounds. We use this one for our Bass. You have a lot of different sounds and the filters are so great. There is also an Arp option.

Our lovely weird synth. Everyone needs a weird synth in their studio ;) Itâs a very old synth (before 1990, if we remember right) and the sound is very deep. You canât find this kind of sound on new synths today. With time, the synth lost a bit of sharpness and tightness so itâs a bit detuned sometimes. But it gives some extra charm to our production when we use it.

Itâs the most basic drum machine, but in our studio itâs very useful because we use it as our first drums. When we start a new track or a remix, it helps to find the best groove. How can we use the hi-hat? How to use the tom? When we find a good groove, and if the sound doesnât fit, we take a sample from our computer.

Itâs our most recent investment. Not very used to all the options yet but the sound bank looks huge. You have a lot of different percussion from different origins. The touch also is very good. You have the same feeling that you get when youâre on a real drum!

Happy 808 Day!
And it is certainly fitting that Roland has added two key items to its Boutique range today, with additions of both the TR-08 and SH-01A.
The Japanese manufacturer’s intention is to provide a more versatile version of the TR-808 for users looking for a drum machine that is more compact while maintaining the same sound characteristics that have made it such an iconic piece of hardware for the last three decades. On their site they state that the product “retains the sound, character, and user interface of the original TR-808.”
As far as home studios go, Sebastian Mullaert’s home studio is one of the most beautiful studios we’ve seen. It’s the kind of studio every artist dreams to have.
