Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 172 Feat. Lost Desert

This week’s Global Vibe Radio episode sees us feature the deep, techy and ambient soundscapes of All Day I Dream recording artist Lost Desert.

Just this week, Lost Desert and label boss Lee Burridge released their collaborative album, Melt, on All Day I Dream. The album aims to take its listeners on a journey through the ethos and creative wonder of its authors.

It begins on a trek through ambient plains with its title opener, followed by “Sailing Without A Compass,” which offers a pensive space with melancholic woodwinds and sweeping cinematic string sections. Euphoria ensues in pieces like the sparkling “Float On” and the buoyant vocal number “Mibale” with Junior, while the wistful “Christina, Daydreaming” closes out Melt on a nostalgic note.

In honor of the album release, and of Lost Desert’s specially-curated Global Vibe Radio mix, we decided to sit down for a chat with the DJ/producer to talk about the album, his studio gear and musical inspirations.

Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 170 Feat. Mary Yuzovskaya

The 170th guest of our weekly Global Vibe Radio mix series is NYC-based vinyl-only techno DJ, producer and record label owner Mary Yuzovskaya.

By way of Berlin and before that Moscow, Maryhas been cultivating her unique orbit in the electronic dance music firmament for over 10 years.

Having graced the decks of all
Moscow’s hotspots back in the
 mid-2000s, Mary moved to Berlin,
where she quickly became
recognised for both her
blisteringly-precise vinyl-only
techno sets and her painstakingly professional approach to the craft
of DJing. Based in New York City
 since 2013, Mary currently holds
a residency at Unter, a notoriously
 secretive underground techno
party showcasing the best in local
and international talent. Also, in
 2017, Mary launched her very
 own record label called Monday
 Off, where she curates and
presses work from artists that
explore techno’s trippier, more hypnotic side.

Mary has been fortunate enough to share the decks with many talented and internationally recognised musicians such as Marcel Dettmann, DVS1, Erika, Developer, Somewhen, Claudio PRC, Henning Baer, Xhin, Tommy Four Seven, Perc, Deadbeat, Anthony Parasole, Edit Select, Dino Sabatini, Norman Nodge and many others. She has been busily traveling the world and performing her unique take on techno music’s deeper vibes at many noted clubs across the world, including Tresor, Arma 17, :// about blank, Distillery (Leipzig) and Output, to name only a few.

With an upcoming debut Los Angeles gig at COMPOUND Summer 2019 alongside Derrick May and Matrixxman, we took the time to have a 360-degree chat with Mary to find out what she has been up to.

Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 165 Feat. Thomas Hessler

Thomas Hessler is part of a promising new generation of techno producers and DJs. Born in East Germany, Hessler’s inspirations are deeply rooted in his home city of Berlin. Growing up during the time of the wall’s fall and resulting changes for Germany itself, his approach to production intends to reflect feelings of change.

Within a short time Hessler played his way from small undergound clubs of Berlin all the way to various venues in Europe, South and North America. Earning his respect in clubs like Bassiani, Fabric, Berghain and Tresor is just proving that his approach towards Djing with energy, emotions, intensive journeys of techno and its recent history is the right way to go.

Thomas has worked tirelessly to develop his craft and prove what he stands for as an artist. With his energetic, driven techno and deep melancholic electronica, informed by classic Detroit and Berlin sound yet also exploring more experimental boundaries. His releases have found a regular home on Marcel Fengler’s influential IMF imprint, as well as on labels like Bassiani, Crossing, Form and Function and Intimate Silence.

As Hessler delivers this week’s Global Vibe Radio mix, the 165th in our series, we took the time to have a chat to find out what he has been up to.
