6AM’s Guide To Hearing Protection

In this business, your ears are literally everything, and you need to protect them.

It might seem like a good idea to adopt the “you only live once” attitude when you’re enjoying a night of techno; to let the music envelop you without impediment. Dance music is just as much about longevity as it is about pleasure, though. Proper techno parties last eight hours or more, and if that party has a proper sound system that’s eight hours of nonstop exposure to hazardous decibel levels. Extrapolate that over years of techno parties and that’s thousands of hours of pummeling your hearing.

Save Ibiza: How To Support Sustainable and Affordable Tourism on the Island

IbizaBeach

As our #TBT Series feature from last week covered, Ibiza has been a popular destination for travelers and ravers for decades now. As the years have progressed, however, electronic music as a whole has seen a tremendous boom with resultant increase in popularity of Ibiza as a party destination. With that we have seen a rise in enormous luxury hotels, bottle service and a general VIP culture permeating the island and almost obscuring the true magic that Ibiza can offer.

A group of people on the island has decided to take back the authentic side of Ibiza by launching Save Ibiza, a website that aims to support the island’s family-run businesses and provide the authentic Ibiza experience beyond the VIP culture.

I have traveled to Ibiza myself five times and always encourage friends making the trip to push themselves beyond Platja d’en Bossa, the clubs and popular beaches. There are tens of secluded and picturesque beaches a mere 30-45 minutes drive away from anywhere on the island, family restaurants with amazing menus, locally sourced ingredients and honest prices, and an entire list of non-clubbing activities to take advantage of.

Save Ibiza gives you the tools to experience the island as a local, providing accommodation resources, a list of real-feel Ibiza eateries, a selection of non-club party options and perhaps most importantly of all, a series of activities that push you to explore the island and look beyond the confines of Space, Amnesia and the other popular nightclubs there. The website provides a local voice for the community with a specially dedicated blog that touches on a series of subjects anyone making the trip to the Balearic island should be familiar with: vegan food options, free local festivals, kids activities on the island and ways to help preserve the true nature and spirit of Ibiza.

If you’re traveling to the island check out the website and plan your trip accordingly. Your visit will be so much more rewarding if you push yourself to see beyond the clubs and VIP culture present on the surface!

Visit Save Ibiza’s website for tips on how to best plan your trip to the island while saving money and helping local businesses grow.
