Minimal house is a subgenre of house music that has been around for decades with an occult like following from all around the world. Explaining the genre however is tough to nail down. With popular tracks combining elements from electro, garage, IDM, and early Detroit techno. We go in-depth here at 6AM on some history, artists, and tracks that represent that minimal sound.
Today weâre catching up with James Burnham, aka James Solace, aka Burnski, but this time we are talking to him as INSTINCT, his UK Garage alias. The UK artist has built his career around years of putting out top quality music under his various guises.
In this interview we dissect his INSTINCT project, under which he is set to release his second album later this year; Point Of View. It features exciting new material as well as previously released certified anthems that join the dots between garage, dub, minimal, breakbeat and tech.
The INSTINCT project was started by the young veteran to have a bit more fun and freedom in the studio. A few years later, however, and some off-the-cuff studio sessions became the spearhead for a new garage movement, with INSTINCT right at the forefront. A second full length within 12 months is landing and is another widescreen showcase of the INSTINCT sound: from dark bangers to cheeky vocal cuts via deep down and dirty rollers, this is high grade club tackle that never fails to connect with the crowd.
FooR is a four-piece collective of producers, musicians and DJs at the forefront (or FooR-front as they call it) of the current UK Garage revival. This Southampton-based act has been championing the garage sound for a new generation and is considered one of the fastest rising UK Garage groups at the moment.
FooR has recently been given the honour of mixing the latest Pure Garage album â the original, and best-selling Garage compilation series of all-time originally mixed by EZ. The album was a huge success reaching number 9 in the official UK compilation chart & number 2 in the dance chart. On the live front, FooR is one of the favorite party-starting festival acts and have played some of the biggest stages in the world over the last few years, including EDC, Isle of Wight Festival, Boardmasters and Mutiny. Earlier this year FooR performed their biggest show to date, playing the Big Top at Isle Of Wight festival on Saturday to 12,000 people in between the headliners Example & Zara Larsson.
The group’s latest endeavor is a mix of Sam Supplier’s original Night & Day mix. Released by Champion Records on October 20th, the remix package aims to take the summer hit back to the clubs as a staple track. Throwing everything they’ve got into this UKG mix, FooR manages to take the original and somehow make it even catchier. A two-step garage beat with added chunky synth melody, combined with the Night & Day vocals takes this mix to the next level.

With dozens of great releases this past year, British duo Cause & Affect have been tearing it up both on the road and in the studio. Their sound incorporates tech house, bassline, garage, and everything in between, creating a highly eclectic yet surprisingly cohesive concoction. Blending the perfect balance of grit and soul, Cause & Affect has been tearing down musical borders and will continue  to do so in the future.
