Premiere & FREE Download: Marley Carroll’s “Starlings/Seven Crows” Release Is Chill-Out Electronica At Its Best

Hailing from the misty mountains of Asheville, NC, Marley Carroll has been making steady waves as a singular artist exceptionally gifted in the dark arts of composition, production and turntablism. Today, the acclaimed producer releases Starlings / Seven Crows, the first in a series of double singles leading up to Flight Patterns, his third full-length LP.

On Flight Patterns, driving wooden drums, deep basses, field recordings and plaintive analog synths provide the substrate for expansive songs with the kind of three-dimensional depth that invites immersive, intentional listening. In a departure from his glitchy early style, Marley expands his sonic palette to include meticulously crafted hints of downtempo, UK bass and slow-motion house, elevating his rhythm-forward electronica to sublime new levels reminiscent of Boards of Canada, Caribou, Tycho, and Four Tet.

On creating “Starlings,” which features spacey Moog leads and intricate footwork-inspired drums, Marley said:

“I wanted to evoke the feeling of a thousand multiform elements moving in unison. I wanted it to be fast, dense, elegant and layered and to rush across the speakers like birds in flight.”

FREE Download: Weska Unleashes Two-Track “Playground” Stomper

Following up his top 5 single “Voyage” released on Kraftek at the end of last year, Berlin-based Canadian producer Weska is back with a free, two-track stomper just in time for the summer season.

The title track “Playground” is a bass heavy club cut that sways upwards and downwards, in and out of a warped vibe. The EP’s counterpart, “Crimson Tide”, is a slightly groovier affair where energetic percussion plays off an array of euphoric pads and sonic laser beams. Adam Beyer has been championing this track for months, and it’s about time that it was released to the masses!

Together, the two form a versatile and captivating EP that attests to Weska’s dynamic sound.

Q&A: Jon Rundell Explains Why He Switched To Free Streaming to Democratize Music Sharing

Jon Rundell‘s new release “Poetry” marks a controversial new direction for the British producer, DJ and label owner, as he seeks to challenging the status quo by giving away his music and the individual parts to them for free.

The moves is complete counter-current to the way the industry has been operating for years. Rundell has decided enough is enough. Increasingly frustrated with the underground music industry’s general resistance to change across the board, he’s decided to ditch the traditional DJ-only focused way of releasing music for multi-platform streaming, ensuring free to listen (in both senses) access to his tracks and even encouraging remixing in fans’ bedrooms across the world by releasing individual parts to this new track.

How? Rundell has decided to revive his own ETCH label to release a brand new single entitle “Poetry,” the first of a series that will see the label churn out tracks that will go straight to Soundcloud, Spotify and Youtube. Each track will be available for free download on SoundCloud, with its parts also available for download to make it easier for aspiring & professional producers to remix it or do whatever they want with them. Eventually, Rundell plans to keep an eye open for anything that may stand out to him from the result of his project and, if appropriate, release it in the same way on the label.

Rundell has been around for years, and this is in a way how he has decided to give back to the younger demographic of dance music fans that he knows have been coming out to party and dance to his music.

6AM caught up with the producer to get more details about the project and how it came about.

FREE DOWNLOAD: Anthony Attalla – “What Happened”

Anthont Attalla

In 2004 Harry “Choo Choo” Romero released What Happened, an EP on that came armed with a strong, dance floor-ready Dub remix of the same-title track by none other than Erick Morillo.

Featuring Jessica Eve on vocals, the same-title track “What Happened” was undeniably one of the hits of that year. Catchy and fast-packed, the minimal looped chunky track  was part of that signature sound that characterized the rising career of the one they called Choo Choo and his remixer for the occasion, Subliminal boss Erick Morillo.

Now, Incorrect Music chief Anthony Attalla has taken the track and given it a complete rework, the finished product already receiving major play by big-name DJs throughout the summer. While the catchy acapella remains,  Attalla’s power lays in the unmistakable and signature step and bounce he has added, as well as the sensual dreamlike melody that permeates the track before kicking back into full groove mode. The tech-heavy result is nothing short of fantastic: a dance floor-ready anthem that has been making people groove throughout summer in dance floors throughout the world.
