The Nightlife Industry Speaks Out Against fabric London Closing, Asking London Mayor Sadiq Khan to Intervene

London Mayor

On a week where countless were shocked to learn that the Islington Council and London’s Met Police suspended fabric’s license indefinitely, many members of the nightlife industry took to social media to express their support for the club.

The venue was originally shut down for just one weekend, before officials took the above measures promising to conduct a full review of the club’s license within 28 days. This all came as a result of two recent drug overdose deaths inside the club.

Various important members of the world’s nightlife scene are now speaking up against the actions by officials that some are worried may not only lead to permanent closure of the club, but also set a dangerous precedent for nightlife in London, the United Kingdom and beyond. As can be seen below, several of the world’s most prominent electronic music artists are asking London Mayor Sadiq Khan to step in and help resolve the issues rather than allow the club to remain closed.

fabric London Temporarily Closed Following Recent Overdose Deaths

Fabric london

The iconic fabric in London will remain closed temporarily this weekend in order to investigate the recent deaths of two 18-year old men from drug overdoses.

The club announced the closure via a Facebook post today:

Unfortunately, the London venue has had to endure some tumultuous relationships with local authorities recently, including an appeal against Islington Council in December of 2015. The council had attempted to impose strict licensing conditions on the venue including sniffer dogs and ID scans for every attendee.

Should Cameras Be Allowed Inside Nightclubs?

Phone Off

With the advent of technology we have seen a steep increase of camera usage inside nightclubs and at concerts in general.

In order to counteract this phenomenon, clubs such as Output in Brooklyn, fabric in London and most famously Berghain/Panorama Bar in Berlin have encouraged and banned the use of photography inside their venues.

What is your opinion on the subjects. Should nightclubs allow photography or should they ban it and allow more focus on the music?

Fabric 81 with Matt Tolfrey

Fabric 81 Banner

In an era where podcasts and mix series are so abundant, one that has stood the test of time is the iconic mix series from Fabric. Since 2001 Fabric has been a platform for artists to showcase their style and put together a true sonic adventure for the listener. Fabric 81 features the work of Matt Tolfrey, and as expected he brings forth some serious dance material.

“This is the mix I have been hoping to achieve my whole career. I’ve basically tried to fit in eleven years of my experiences at fabric, but trust me it’s been hard as there’ve been so many. There are records on here that I remember playing the first time I ever played at the club, and there are records on here I can’t wait to play at the club again. By editing nearly all the tracks on the mix, I was able to fit it all in.” – Matt Tolfrey

You can listen to the 30-minute preview of Fabric 81 below, with the full mix being available for purchase on iTunes and the Fabric Official Website.

Field Trip 05: A Night at Fabric, London

This week, we close our eyes and imagine ourselves at Fabric for a night of techno that can and should be appreciated in an environment like that club. It’s never too early to start dreaming; on Saturday November 15th, the rooms at Fabric will be taken over by a stellar lineup of underground talent. Take a look at why we’d want to make a Field Trip for this one. Three rooms of nothing but outstanding music at Fabric this weekend. Event on Resident Advisor: Fabric with Desolat and guests

Room 1

Loco Dice

Guti (Live)

Hector

Room 2

Terry Francis

Marcel Fengler

KiNK (Live)

 Room 3

Richy Ahmed

Nathan Barato

Between these three rooms, clubbers will have their hands full this weekend. The Desolat crew will certainly be bringing their signature tech house sound, and with Guti contributing a live performance that will only add more to the vibe of the main room. That being said, Hector always finds a way to deliver slick rolling grooves to the dance floor. Check out his guestmix for THUMP right here:

The same can be said about KiNK’s live performance. Los Angeles was lucky enough to have him dazzle us with his live performance at Lot 613 towards the end of summer, so I can only begin to imagine the music onslaught that is to come in Room 2. And to sweeten the deal a little, let’s toss Berghain resident Marcel Fengler into the mix and you have one banging party going on.

Room 3 completes the night perfectly with Ahmed and Barato, both having recently released on Hot Creations. You can have a listen to the two respective releases of Richy Ahmed and Nathan Barato on Beatport. With three rooms of stacked talent like this, it’s no wonder why Fabric is held in such high esteem in the international clubbing community. One of the most powerful and clear sound systems in conjunction with a phenomenal booking policy makes Fabric one of the most respected nightlife institutions in the world.

Club nights around the world consistently have the best to offer when it comes to quality dance music. Nights like this at Fabric portray just that. An eclectic mix of artists ranging from Desolat to Berghain, this party should not be missed by anyone within a 100 mile radius of London. Check it out next week to see what event our Field Trip takes us to…or
wish it took us to.
