Floating Points Touring North America with Live Band

FloatingPOints1

When Floating Points debuted on Resident Advisor’s Top Live Acts of 2015 list in December he had played less than 10 live shows. Ever. Yet his critically acclaimed Essential Mix had made him the talk of many whom, with good reason, have since been clamoring for the chance to see him perform live. This comes to no surprise considering the praise Sam Shepherd’s debut album Elaenia garnered from critics and fans alike, receiving the final accolade of RA’s album of the year for 2015.

Patience is virtue and those in North America are now being re-warded with a 17-stop tour after the artist performed live in London and New York City with a live orchestra to test out his new live show. The tour will take place in April and May and will span both the United States and Canada for around a month, including five stops in Southern California, two dates in San Francisco and stops in Seattle, Portland and Vancouver to complete the West Coast. The Metro in Chicago, upstairs from Smart Bar, will host the city’s stop on the tour before Shepherd visits Toronto, Montreal and a final flurry of East Coast dates that include NYC, DC, Durham and Atlanta.

The Los Angeles broadcast will be the first of two in the United States, with Pete set to take over a Miami rooftop during Miami Music Week where he will be in the company of Annie Mac, Dannie Howard and additional guests yet to be announced.

PeteTongAnnouncement

Pete Tong said: “I’m very excited about my show coming live from LA on Jan 22nd. Los Angeles has become a creative hub for electronic artists from all over the world during the past few years and California and Las Vegas a hot bed of ground breaking festivals and some of the world’s leading clubs. Bringing the show out of Hollywood and being able to reflect some of the exciting things going on is a great way to start the year.”

Stream the Maceo Plex Essential Mix for 30 Days through the BBC

Maceo Plex Essential 2015

“What I’d like for the listeners to gather from this Essential Mix is a closer look at all the musical soundscapes that inspire my own productions. As well as an intimate portrait of my roots stretching back to the early 90s when I began. Instead of playing all the newest unreleased hits, I’ve woven old and new music that I feel will grow on the listener the more they listen to it.” – Maceo Plex

Maceo Plex’s Essential Mix recently aired on BBC Radio 1, with the mix fully embracing the ethos surrounding the established BBC mix series. Maceo Plex displays an excellent sense of selection throughout the essential mix, dropping many releases from his label, Ellum, a handful of white labels, as well as synthetic techno anthems like Voiski’s Wax Fashion and Wasp Factory by Rex the Dog.

As of November 7th, you can stream the Maceo Plex Essential Mix for 30 days on the BBC Radio 1 Website.

Joie de Vivre and the Return of Ed Banger Records

edbanger“It all started in Paris at Folies Pigalle, an old theatre where naked girls used to dance. In the early ’90s it became a nightclub where freaks, cool kids and drag queens came to party. I spent my Thursdays, my Fridays and even my Saturdays there. In 1995 I threw my very first party, Hype, at Folies Pigalle. It was house music all night long with DJ Gregory on the wheels of steel. I was running the club every Thursday, inviting DJs from the city to come and play. Most of them, including Dimitri From Paris, Motorbass, Daft Punk, DJ Cam, Bob Sinclar and DJ Deep, became what they call French Touch.” – Busy P

Anyone who has been a fan of French electro house or Daft Punk has come across the name Ed Banger at some point. It’s a name that illustrates the innovativeness of French music production that makes it a one of a kind source. The founder of Ed Banger Records Pedro “Busy P” Winter aired an Ed Banger Special Essential Mix alongside Para One and Cassius last Saturday on BBC Radio 1, which includes releases from the last twenty years on the label. Talk about a two-hour throwback to some retro electro and breakbeat. Read more
