Idris Elba Pursuing DJ Career Over Acting

The multi-talentedĀ Idris ElbaĀ has reached a critical creative juncture. In a new interview withĀ Vanity Fair,Ā theĀ Golden Globe-winning actor said he intends to “lean away from the acting work” and pursue his career as a DJ more concertedly.

Idris Elba’s upcoming year on the big screen is slated to be a busy one. Elba is set to star in George Miller’s fantasy romance film,Ā Three Thousand Years of LongingĀ andĀ Beast,Ā which will see him portraying a widowed father who must fight to protect the lives of his children against a wild lion on a South African game reserve. Elba will also voice the part of Knuckles inĀ Sonic the Hedgehog 2, out in April.

Co-founder of the Los Angeles event series and radio show Made to Move, Akumen has cut his teeth in the local scene curating parties featuring DJs from Southern California and abroad. Having self-released most of his previous work, he now drops the high octane, four-track techno EP ā€˜Validity Effectā€™ on emerging London imprint La Bonne Musique. His EP draws inspiration from the psychological concept of the same name, ā€œThe validity effect is the increase in perceived validity of repeated statements.” It explores repeated instrumentation, drums, and 303 sequencings switched up across all four tracks to deliver a varied, club-ready release. In this interview, the budding artist shares more about his latest project, creative flow, and why a sense of community is important for growth.
