Digging Deeper with Lucas Freire

Known for his unique mixing technique which according to many witnesses is close to perfection and for his singular vibrating and energetic performances; Lucas Freire does not leave anyone indifferent when he takes command of the DJ booth. His connection with the crowd is exceptional something that he developed over the years playing in some of the best clubs and festivals of the world.

Lucas Freire started his DJ career in 2000. His great technical ability, superbness in the mixes, and his vigorous way of expressing himself through music in the DJ boothmade him one of the most respected DJs in the Brazilian Techno scene. His rich knowledge of the industry and his intense commitment in numerous projects helped to expand the electronic music culture in Brazil which eventually brought him even more respect worldwide beyond simply being a prominent DJ. He was a resident DJ at the legendary Club A Loca and Lov.e Club, as well as leading projects such as Club Play, Kraft Club and Techardia party, which placed his city, Campinas, on the map of the electronic scene.

In 2004 he made his first tour in Europe and became known internationally. As expected, the European public acceptance was outstanding and Lucas spent the following 2 years traveling the old continent to perform at some of the most important clubs and festivals. Since 2007 he lives in Barcelona, Spain, where he continued to evolve in his career, managing his record labels and developing his impeccable work in the studio.

Freire recently joined the OFF Recordings roster with a debut EP offering that is a diverse combination of 3 originals and 2 remixes by Oliver Deutschmann and Tom Hades. Euphoria does what it says, thanks to its uplifting bell-hook. Beyond Democracy takes things to a darker direction with a mean synth theme. Sleeping Beauty is a deeper affair, with melancholic pads, perfect for the later hours of the night. Oliver Deutschmann, hot on the heels of a string of releases on labels like Mote Evolver, Hotflush, Innervisions and Suara, delivers an equally driving and trippy remix to ‘Sleeping Beauty’. FInally, Tom Hades, one of Belgium’s most notorious DJ/producers offers a truly epic journey with his slowly evolving interpretation of ‘Euphoria’.

We caught up with the man-of-the-moment to dig deeper into his career and what is ahead in the coming months. Read on and make sure to check out his Euphoria EP out on OFF Recordings via Beatport.

Digging Deeper with Darlyn Vlys

Recently we had the chance to premiere one of Darlyn Vlys‘s tracks from his forthcoming Prince in the Rain LP on SINCOPAT, a collab with label boss AFFKT.

Darlyn Vlys has published on important labels of the electronic music scene such as: Get Physical, Upon You, Suara, My Favorite Robot or of course, Sincopat, where he debuted in 2010 with the EP “Soleil Levant”. His music has been played by the likes of Maceo Plex, Loco Dice or Dubfire.

This debut album was designed as a kind of incredibly well cohesive original soundtrack, written within the parameters of a sci-fi film with a good dose of realism, drama and romanticism. In honor of the exciting release, we also took the time to have a chat with Darlyn to discuss the project, his traveling experiences and more.

Premiere & Digging Deeper with Risa Taniguchi

Well-established throughout the Japanese club music scene through her performances on streaming platform Dommune and radio stations Inter FM and Rakuten FM, as well as an active touring schedule that often sees her travel the length and breadth of the country, Risa Taniguchi has positioned herself as one of Tokyo’s most exciting artists going into 2018.

Her debut track “What Are You Doing” from Lyase Recordings (March 2018) was supported by so many artists like Maceo Plex, Amelie Lens, Charlotte de Witte, Perc, Daniel Avery, Boxia, etc. Also, her unreleased song “Satisfied” was played on BBC Radio 1 by Boxia, and “Emergency” was chosen out of thousands of demos from the world by Amelie Lens when she opened a temporary email address for upcoming artists.

It is thus no surprise that Risa is the newest addition to Clash Lion, with her new Ambush  EP. The label is a mix of three personalities; Shall Ocin, TERR, and Daniel Watts. Three artists with different musical backgrounds merge forces to create a truly eclectic and open-minded label.

The title track “Ambush” is dark and distorted, with a thundering and abrasive bass presence. “Execution” is for the acid heads, and exclusively premiered on 6AM; its bouncing bass syncopation alongside a nastily good acid line drives the pace throughout the track.

Risa’s own muffled and eerie vocals come into play with “Monica” creating intensity in the track’s delivery. Linear in its flow, it’s a perfect late night after party track. Clash Lion proving true to their ethos of delivering music with no boundaries and freedom of expression from one of Japan’s hottest emerging talents.

Impressed by this new EP, 6AM had a lengthy chat with Risa to discover more about her and the home city of Tokyo and its scene.

Digging Deeper with Gary Beck

Gary Beck storms into 2018 with the first BEK Audio release of the year, a killer four-track EP fully loaded with gnarled, mechanical weapons that was released on vinyl this past May 10th, and will see the light of day digitally on May 21st.

Long-time fans of Gary will not be disappointed with this Pneuma EP. It definitely falls into that grimy, stripped back warehouse sound. “Pneuma” is the lead track and its  pulsating synthetic bassline is haunted with a punchy vocal stab. Minimalistic and mechanical elements resonate in “NTX”, whilst “Sythen” has some serious relentless power, it’s apocalyptic synths and jolting high hats make this heads down slammer. “Black Jabba” has the most “groove” of all the tracks, with a rhythmic low end and a chugging bass, it rounds out the tracks in total perfection.

At 6AM we have been following Beck’s career for years now, recognizing him as one of the most respected techno acts to come out of Scotland, and that is saying something considering how prolific the Scots have been with churning out techno talents over the last couple of decades.

While Beck is soon to be a guest on our Global Vibe Radio mix series, we took the opportunity to have a more in-depth chat with him as his latest EP hits record stores and Beatport for pre-order.

Digging Deeper with Mark Alow

Mark Alow is a young producer and DJ from Spain, without a question one of the emerging talents to keep an eye on.

His sound moves seamlessly between the rocky peaks of techno and house, while remaining cosmopolite, yet danceable. His call is to provoke motion from a solid and serious proposal. A soft but addictive groove, almost like velvet, and very organic; deep basslines are the ones that set the path to follow, a highly electronic leitmotiv in which emotion is the key; as well as falling into some sort of synthetic reverie, that drives us towards that magical state, in which consciousness is lost: there is no time, no space, only sounds.

Mark has released music on imprints like Akbal Music, Baile Musik, Little Helpers, Innocen Music and more. As a DJ, his commitment is quite similar to what he does as producer: elegant, urban, pulsing but punching, very danceable and always surprising sets.

We caught up with him to find out what gets him ticking.
