Digging Deeper with Yamen & EDA

Yamen & EDA have been friends since they were kids, and anyone who’s experience their music won’t be too surprised to learn this. Boasting an almost telepathic understanding of one another’s musical thoughts, their tracks play out like grandiose statements, regardless of whether they veer toward minimal planes or more peak-time pastures.

Born and raised in Montpellier, France, theirs is a sound that is every bit as sophisticated as the country they call home. Recently, the guys have set up their own label, Maison mere, a home for music they love which caught our ear recently courtesy of their most-excellent Retrospect EP.

We put a few questions their way recently to see what they had to say about it all, and here’s what went down:

Digging Deeper with Tony Hopkins

Finland has long enjoyed a positive relationship with electronic music. From DJ/producers such as Sasse, Jori Hulkonnen and the Deep Space Helsinki boys, theirs is a musical community that’s not lacking in influential names. Contemporary stars such as Lil Tony would seem to suggest that the current scene is no less exciting either. Another such man to make his mark in Finland recently is Mood of the Era label boss, Tony Hopkins.

Tony might not possess a Finnish name (indeed, he’s half American but was born and raised in Turku, Finland), but he’s most definitely a man who’s helping to push the local scene. With the latest release from his label, Mood of the Era, about to drop soon, we decided to put a few questions to the man in question…

Digging Deeper with Ralph Zuckermann

As the owner of Destroy All Monsters and a resident at Darkroom, Ralph Zuckermann is a pretty important cog in Asia’s underground electronic music scene.

An ex-pat from Germany, Ralph settled in Asia some time ago and is now firmly based in Hong Kong, where he’s earned a reputation for his long, winding sets and his passionate dedication to pushing discerning sounds in the region. It’s proved a remarkable journey for him thus far, and with his Destroy All Monsters label beginning to make traction outside of just Asia, we thought it a good time to pick the brain of the man who produces using solely his surname.

Here’s what happened when we checked in with recently…  Read more

Digging Deeper with SHADED and Harvard Bass

Turbo Recordings celebrates 50 releases spanning 6 years of existence in the simplest of ways: with an EP by two of the label’s most popular contributors over the years.

Turbo superstar SHADED and Twin Turbo MVP Harvard Bass rise to the meaningless occasion, delivering two tracks designed to bypass the brain completely and manifest in the overlap between the Festive Nervous System and the rich inner life of your downloads folder.

The foxy two-track EP titled Body FeelsĀ is perfect Turbo material, just as you would expect for the 50th release on Tiga‘s imprint. The EP, which is out on January 26th, is available for pre-order now.

We took the occasion to speak to the two minds behind the release to dig deeper into their connection and crack a joke or two.

Including a release on Hydrozoa this is only her second release outside of Second State, so we took the time to chat with Rebecca in honor of her debut on Intec.
