Cocoon Boss Sven Väth to Release “The Sound Of The 17th Season” Compilation

Sven Banner

This past summer Sven Väth celebrated Cocoon‘s 17th consecutive year in Ibiza. The record-label and party series calls Amnesia its home on Monday nights and hosts some of the most celebrated names in techno, minimal and house.

To mark the occasion, the label chief has carefully selected 26 tracks to form up a two-disc mix compilation entitled “The Sound Of The 17th Season.” Scheduled for November 25th, the Cocoon Recordings release will feature original tracks from top-tier artists including Eddie Fowlkes, Danny Daze, Slam, Robert Hood’s Floorplan project, Sven himself and remixes from Roman Flügel, André Galluzzi and Kölsch.

This summer Amnesia has faced increased difficulties with local officials, first at the hand of police investigating the club for tax fraud as part of Operation Chopin, and then for parties going past approved finished time. The venue’s owner, Martin Ferrer, and three workers including his son were arrested and then released on bail as part of the ongoing investigation that has now uncovered over €2 million in cash hidden at the club and in various deposit boxes belonging to Ferrer.

Papa Sven Väth Is Caught Watching the 2016 Euro Cup While DJing at Awakenings

It is said that the love for football (soccer) knows no limits. In fact growing up in Italy, there was a saying I learned while just a kid and still hold true to this day, “In life, there’s only two things that never ever change: your mamma and your football team!”

But what about techno, or one’s passion for DJing and electronic music?

KiNK and Kölsch To Remix Two Sven Väth Early 90’s Classics

accidentinparadise

Cocoon is set to release a two-track EP on April 15th containing remixes of timeless Sven Väth tracks by none other than KiNK and Kölsch.

KiNK, top-notch Bulgarian producer listed as #1 on Resident Advisor’s poll for Best Live Acts of 2015, is poised to put his signature on 1992’s “Accident in Paradise,” while Kölsch is remixing “Robot” from the 1994 LP The Harlequin, The Robot And The Ballet-Dancer. Both tracks saw plenty of dance floor play at Omen, the Frankfurt club Väth was part-owner of until its closure in 1998 and were originally released on Eye Q Records, the imprint he started together with Matthias Hoffmann and Heinz Roth.

Whereas KiNK’s influence turns “Accident in Paradise” into a true acid-influenced re-work, Kölsch’s product has a bigger more energetic sound. Both remixes clock in at well over 9 minutes without feeling drawn out.

You can listen to both clips on Wordandsound.

Cocoon In The Park Announces Lineup for 2016

CocoonInThePark2

Located in the majestic grounds of Temple Newsam House on the outskirts of Leeds, the 8th successive edition of Cocoon in the Park is poised to continue its strong tradition as a diverse one-day affair with focus on music and production.

Surrounded by typically lush British countryside and armed with a massive sound system, this year’s Cocoon will take place on July 9th and will begin with three back-to-back sets starting with emerging label artists Annie Erez and Bobby O’Donnel. Next up, it will be the turn of Fuse London’s Enzo Siragusa to get on the decks accompanied by Rossko, followed by the combination of Eats Everything and Patrick Topping. The line-up continues with Chicago’s Green Velvet making his first Cocoon in the Park visit as a special guest before handing the booth to New York City duo The Martinez Brothers. Unsurprisingly, the night’s closing duties will be given to none other than the imprint’s leader, Sven Väth.

Humble Beginnings with Chris Tietjen

Chris Tietjen 1

“When I turned 15 my mom asked me if she could introduce me to a good friend who is a really famous electronic DJ. I was open-minded so I said ‘sure why not…’”

That DJ happened to be none other than Sven Väth, and from that point on the path was clear for a young Chris Tietjen. Starting an internship with Cocoon when he was in 8th grade, Chris Tietjen learned the ins-and-outs of a dynamic industry and was exposed to experiences that would forever shape his musical career. Filling in for Sven Väth at an Ibiza after hours is certainly up there…

Like much of Europe at the time, dance culture in Frankfurt was thriving, and as a result the next wave of artists began to rise. Through his passionate dedication to the music and culture, and under the guidance of Cocoon, Chris Tietjen was well on his way to making an impact in the global dance community. To date, Chris Tietjen has a plethora of releases on Cocoon, and continues to add to his discography with great releases on labels such as Atrakt Recordings, Serkal, and Moan Records, all receiving major support and playability from every DJ worth their salt in the industry.

Chris recently took some time to catch up with us discussing everything from his early life and internship at Cocoon, to his Techno Parents, and why shopping for vinyl is like going to an authentic deli. Enjoy his recent mix for Electronic Groove, and read the full interview with 6AM Group below.  Read more
