CJ Jeff Returns on Yoshitoshi Recordings with Raw and Gritty “Eye Contact” EP Featuring Mathias Kaden Remix

Over the past few years, CJ Jeff has become an integral part of the Yoshitoshi roster, first with his remix of Eddie Amador’s 6AM (we love that track name!) and then with his debut label EP Pitch Black. His music is a raw, unadulterated mix of tech house and techno that you can always count on shaking things up at the party. CJ goes dark and gritty with loads of funk on his new EP Eye Contact.

The title track is nothing short of gargantuan. Its heavy, driving bass riffs and pounding drums are pulled straight from the techno bible, and CJ combines them with distorted vocals and acid square wave riffs that keep it lively over a big bottom end that roars through subwoofers like a monster. To kick things up a notch, we’re very exctied to welcome German house honcho Mathias Kaden to Yoshitoshi with a remix of ‘Eye Contact’ that balances out CJ’s brutal mix with a jacking house groove. Mathias is known for his funky and minimal tracks and his remix is as textbook as it gets, deploying bouncy bass and warm, classic-sounding drums and a breakdown to send the floors into a frenzy.

On the B-side CJ wraps up this great EP with ‘Silver Spoon,’ a slightly deeper but still energetic techno roller sporting a Detroit-style chord stab riff and plenty of percussion. One can’t help to be transformed to another time and dimension with Silver Spoon. We think that place is a dark warehouse.

As 6AM premieres the title track from Eye Contact, we took the chance to catch up with CJ Jeff following our interview and Global Vibe Radio mix with him last year.

Q&A and Global Vibe Radio Episode 056 feat. Rythmetic Records Boss CJ Jeff

This week’s episode of Global Vibe Radio comes from Greek producer and Rhythmetic Records boss CJ Jeff.

Last year the Greek producer, DJ and label head celebrated 15 years in the game, an achievement marked by releases on some of the most respected house and techno labels around, including Souvenir, Skint, Bedrock and most recently Objektivity and Yoshitoshi. The array of dance floor gems he has produced over the last decade have further established his reputation as one of the most exciting producers on the circuit, with more planned for his career ahead. Naturally, his prolificness in the studio has led him to launch his own record label, Rhythmetic Records. Launched in 2005 with a vinyl release from Jeff himself – complete with a remix from Maetrik aka Maceo Plex – the label as gone on to release music from likes of Nick Curly and No Artificial Colours gracing the catalogue.

Premiere: CJ Jeff Remix of Eddie Amador’s “6AM” Out On Yoshitoshi September 26th

CJ Jeff

The Yoshitoshi journey back in time to revisit some of its best classics continues, this time going back ten years to 2006 for a remix of Eddie Amador’s aptly titled “6AM.”

In charge of revisiting the track and giving it a brand-new twist is none other than Greek producer and DJ maestro CJ Jeff. As the title may suggest, the original is an ideal late night/early morning tune packed with the essential groove that makes it an ideal weapon for any after-hours arsenal. CJ Jeff’s signature is clearly audible throughout his new rework, beginning with an imposing 808 kick that carries the mix forward and continuing with the smooth melodies and contagious vocals that saturate the track throughout.

The result is exemplary Yoshitoshi material – the type of strong release that has elevated Sharam’s imprint into one of the most eclectic and sought-out labels in today’s electronica industry.

The remix is part of a double A sided package that also contains an Ardalan remix of Eddie Amador’s “Psycho X Girlfriend.” Scheduled for vinyl and Beatport release on Monday September 26th, the digital package will also contain both remastered original mixes.
