Brooklyn’s Output Announces Plan To Close Following New Year’s Day 2019

Sad news coming in from New York City today as Brooklyn club Output has announced its plans to close following one last New Year’s Day party on January 1st, 2019.

The world-renowned club will face the same fate as Manhattan’s Cielo, which has the same owner and has also announced plans to close soon.

Statements posted by the club on social media today confirm their plans to close, “This sudden turn of events may seem shocking to many, but for those of us watching from the inside, we have seen the writing on the wall for some time,” management writes. “A confluence of factors contributed to the club’s misfortune: rapidly shifting social trends, unfavorable market conditions and weakening financial outlooks coincided with the simultaneous emergence of multiple existential challenges unique to the club’s circumstances.”

Output has been known as one of the best techno and house clubs in North America since its opening in 2013, having hosted and supporting the growth of underground sounds in its city and the United States throughout its operation. Their last party will take place on New Year’s Eve and into New Year’s Day, and will feature their third annual all-night set from John Digweed.

The storied Manhattan house and techno club Cielo confirmed plans to close with a statement made directly by owner Nicolas Matar to Resident Advisor today.

Output Announces 5th Anniversary Celebration Event Series

Output, the renowned Brooklyn nightclub and a cultural institution in its own right, is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a massive weekend of special events happening from Thursday, January 25th until Sunday, January 28th.

Win Tickets to BEDOUIN’s Acclaimed SAGA Debut in NYC

The SAGA continues as Bedouin, the Brooklyn DJ duo coming hot off their third Ibiza summer and first HEART nightclub residency, are returning to their beloved hometown in Brooklyn this coming Saturday, December 16 for the SAGA debut party in North America. Bedouin Presents SAGA is a collaboration with one of New York’s premier promoters Cityfox, and will take place at the Knockdown Center on the Brooklyn/Queens. Naturally, the event will feature the kind of production and environment both SAGA and Cityfox have become well known for.

“The summer we just spent in Ibiza hosting our SAGA series at HEART really surpassed anything we could have imagined. The response from both our industry peers and our fans has been truly amazing and overwhelming. Being from Brooklyn, New York is a city that means so much to us and so we couldn’t think of a better place than our hometown to recreate the magic of SAGA for the first time outside of Ibiza,” says Bedouin’s Rami Abou-Sabe and Tamer Malki.

Schimanski NYC Nightclub Opening in Brooklyn on Site of Old Verboten

Schimanski NYC

The rumors have been confirmed: the site that once used to host Verboten nightclub in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood will soon be home a brand-new venue. And by soon we mean starting with this upcoming Halloween night on Monday!

Schimanski is scheduled for a soft opening on October 31st with a special Halloween Party featuring Special Guests TBA. Info and RSVP is available on the venue’s official website. The official fun will begin the following weekend when the club is set to host Edu Imbernon, Eli & Fur and Jon Charnis on Friday November 4th; and Tiger & Woods, Morgan Geist and Jacques Renault the following day on Saturday November 5th.

The building at 54 N 11th St. used to be the home of Verboten and has been empty since spring when the state seized the property after an investigation that revealed $360,000 worth of unpaid sales tax and arrested owner Jen Schiffer on fraud charges. Schimanski, which is named after a fictional character from a 1981 German crime series, began a round of rumors when posters were spotted across Brooklyn promising quality lineups catering to the underground dance music scene.

The spotted Schimanski poster, which you can see below, includes the officially announced artists mentioned above, as well as other scheduled for the remainder of the Fall 2016 season including Radio Slave, wAFF, Breakbot, Lauren Lane,  Mat.Joe, Monoloc, Delta Functionen, Volvox, Paul Raffaelle, Sascha Dive and Veronica Vasicka.

The Cityfox Experience Goes On Despite Weather and Liquor Concerns During the Brooklyn Mirage Opening

CityFoxExperience

For underground house music in New York City and surroundings, today was lined up to be the joyous re-opening of the highly anticipated Brooklyn Mirage, welcomed with a Cityfox Experience lineup boasting Adriatique, Thugfucker, Atish, Frank & Tony, Henrik Schwarz, Matthias Meyer and Bilaliwood.

Clues that various logistics were not cooperating with the party began to surface earlier in the week. Bad weather forecast and the prospect of a rainy day at a mostly outdoor venue had began to dampen the mood. Yet, Cityfox communicated amply through their social network channels that the event was, “rain or shine,” and that, “if outside is untenable, we have an incredible indoor space called The Great Hall that can host.” They went further to specify that, “Indoor space is not crammed, is bigger than outdoors.”

This morning, hours before the event was scheduled to start, Cityfox took to Facebook with a post containing notes for the event. Suddenly the official verbiage changed slightly, the note specifically stating that “The event will be taking place outdoors: currently, there’s a tiny chance of drizzle (though forecasts are improving), and it will be a bit chilly.” They advised to dress warm and noted that to counter-act the bad weather, they had set up a coat check, “heat stations” around the outdoors dance floor and would be giving out free ponchos, hot coco, tea, with other food vendors on site. They did mention an indoor lounge in the adjoining Great Hall, yet set times posted on the note clearly pointed to an outdoor music stage with no music playing inside.

Verboten New York Allegedly Seized By New York State

Verboten2

In recent months we reported that Verboten New York had allegedly failed to pay artist and was being sued by investors for supposed fraud and mis-use of funds.

Today, news surfaced that the Brooklyn club has been seized by the State of New York as fans of the club began tweeting and sharing photos of a notice reportedly posted on the front doors of the venue.

The sign, which you can see clearly below, states that the venue has failed to pay taxes and has thus been taken in possession by the state.

There is no doubt Verboten New York played a pivotal role in the resurgence of the techno and house scene in the city of New York over the last several years, leaving many to wonder what exactly went wrong with what was considered one of the most respected clubs in the city.

Warped into the Techno Dimension at Time Warp US 2015

12247035_10153859200836336_3227054422814467190_n

Brooklyn was a site to behold this past weekend, for it was the location of a tunnel into a peculiar dimension riddled with all things techno and the subtleties folded in between the tapestry of electronic music. My weekend excursion to New York for the second edition of Time Warp US was nothing short of eye-opening mind stimulation amongst the finest techno one’s ears could possibly commend on American soil.
