There is one festival that takes place in Portugal where a handful of house and techno’s best artists come together and show off what they have. That’s how Alan Fitzpatrick was able to describe the BPM Festival in PortimĂŁo, Portugal.
This coming September 13th all the way through to the 15th, people from around the world will swarm to Portugal for the highly anticipated 3-day festival. Originally designed as an elite dance music industry networking event, the festival has morphed into an international mélange of electronic music lovers, DJs, producers, revelers, and partygoers.
With over 50 artists now set to take over the festivalâs new format of four days and nights of programming on the golden sand beaches of Praia da Rocha in PortimĂŁo, attendees can look forward to returning artists Andrea Oliva, Eats Everything, Honey Dijon, Joseph Capriati, Marco Carola, Richy Ahmed, Skream, The Martinez Brothers and more. Uniquely hosting sought-after labels and party brands, blanc, Cuttinâ Headz, Four Thirty Two, and Mindshake, have been added to the showcase lineup.
Accompanying previously announced artists, the newly revealed second wave of artists will perform alongside Adriatique, Apollonia, Dubfire, Josh Wink, Laurent Garnier, Loco Dice, Matador, Paco Osuna, POPOF, Stephan Bodzin (live) and many more. From the first showcase announcement, returning label showcases include Italian duo Neverdogsâ Bamboleo, Stefano Noferiniâs leading Italian imprint Deeperfect, Loco Diceâs German powerhouse Desolat, POPOFâs esteemed FORM Music, U.K. house music authority Kaluki, Portugalâs own Neopop + Brunch, and The BPM Festivalâs star-studded signature events This Is The End hosted by Ăberhaus and YAâAH MUUL.
Making its BPM Portugal showcase debut, attendees can look forward to Adam Beyerâs seminal imprint Drumcode and the BPM showcase debut of Matadorâs energy-driving label, RUKUS.
Cristina Torres GĂłmez, the Municipal President of the Business Coordinating Council of the Riviera Maya and Mayor of Solidaridad, has made the public announcement that The BPM Festival and all events of this nature are categorically canceled in the area. The news came following the murder of 5 people with 15 injured in the early hours of this morning at Blue Parrot in Playa del Carmen.
The news of the deaths of five people, four foreigners and a Mexican, at the hands of a single person who has since managed to flee, has already gone around the world, adding spotlight to the incident and, ultimately, the festival’s future.
Cristina Torres GĂłmez said, âAt this moment, our general stance is not to allow BPM to perform here. It is a decision that we have to make together; we have to analyze the type of destination that we want to have, what kind of events we want toâŠpromote and, above all, what that event entails, what the regulatory framework will be for these kinds of events.â
Maria Helena Mata Pineda, President of the Business Coordinating Council in the Riviera Maya told El Universal, âWeâre asking for these kinds of events to go away. Donât let in anymore. We donât want BPM here anymore, or any other similar event. We donât want it and we thank the authorities who are listening.â
The decision to remove BPM, according to Mata Pineda, is not related to any kind of drug violence. With BPM gone, local businesses will ultimately prosper.
âWe want to generate jobs in a healthy environment, that healthy tourists come and leave here their currency in an atmosphere of warmth and health in which families and we can live in peace.â
According to the State Attorney General, Miguel Angel Pech Cen, initial investigations into the shooting reveal that the shooting was carried out by a person who was denied entry to the Blue Parrot nightclub for carrying a firearm.
