Co-founder of 2017’s failed Fyre Festival, Billy McFarland, is set to launch a brand new treasure hunt event in the Bahamas, Deadline reports. Heading back to Great Exuma, the same island where Fyre Festival was originally set to go ahead in 2017 — PYRT will see participants take part in a treasure hunt where they track down bottles containing messages.
The U.S. Marshal Service is now holding an online auction for 126 lots of minor assets from the fraudulent Fyre Festival planned by William “Billy” McFarland and Ja Rule that was scheduled to occur in the Bahamas in 2017.
The auction is being held by U.S. Marshals auction vendor Gaston & Sheehan on the web at www.txauction.com. Registration and bidding are currently underway, with the auction ending in three days on August 13.
Remember the idyllic island setting that was everyone thought they were jetting off to for Fyre Festival? No, not the actual location of the disaster, but the pristine island that was used in all their promo to scam people?
Well, that island is now up for sale, and it could be yours for the modest price tag of just $11.8 million dollars.
If you thought that the Fyre Festival debacle was over or swept under the rug, you were wrong.
This past Friday co-founder Billy McFarland was arrested on a count of “write fraud” and is now facing up to 20 years in prison. The charge comes from illegal activities leading up to Fyre Festival, possibly the biggest music event failure of all time at least as far as the negative publicity it received in the wake of all that went wrong.
Fyre Media LLC, Billy’s company, is thought to have been connected with an illegitimate scheme to defraud investors by misrepresenting its financial information.
