Berghain’s Famous Bouncer Sven Marquardt Denied Entry at Australian Nightclub

This one may elicit a chuckle or two out of you, if you’ve ever been denied entry at Berghain that is.

Sven Marquardt, arguably the most known of Berghain’s bouncers,  was denied entry at a club in Sydney, Australia. A taste of his own medicine, perhaps, knowing of the countless techno fans he has denied at the entrance of the most popular techno club in the world, Berghain.

Berlin’s famous photographer Marquardt had an exhibition at Goethe-Institut in Sydney, and then decided to go clubbing while there. In an interview, he shared how he was denied at the entrance because local bouncers found his facial tattoos to be a tad bit suspicious. In the interview he reveals that he talked with the club owner later, who admitted that he was also denied entry at Berghain when he was in Berlin.

Pop Star Kylie Minogue To Perform Live at Berghain

The iconic Berlin techno institution is set to host famed pop singer Kylie Minogue on Tuesday, March 20th.

The event is one of five stops of a tour that, according to info on her website, allows fans to witness the Australian star “in an intimate setting.” The other performances are scheduled to take place in London, Manchester, Paris and Barcelona, with tickets going on general sale at 10 AM CET on February 15th.

Kylie’s 14th studio album, Golden, is due for release on April 6th.

A Guide Inside Berghain

So much has been said about Berghain/Panorama Bar, the storied Berlin venue that has become an institution in the techno and house scene of its city and, factually, the entire world.

The club’s beginnings can be traced to a previous club named Ostgut, which ran from 1998 to 2003. Prior to hosting the club, that building was known as the OstgĂŒterbahnhof railway shipping warehouse. Its founders, Michael Teufele and Norbert Thormann, would open Berghain at its new location shortly after during the following year. The name “Berghain” is a portmanteau of the names of the two quarters that flank the south and north sides of the building in which the club is housed: Kreuzberg (formerly in West Berlin) and Friedrichshain (formerly in East Berlin); the literal meaning of the German word Berghain is “mountain grove”.

The club itself is a massive structure at 4 stories high. When entering one can be sure that multiple of its rooms are in use in one function or another, with something happening on at least two-to-three of its levels, or perhaps deep inside one of its darkrooms.

Berghain/Panorama Bar Statistics: 7 Years of Data Analyzed

An avid fan of techno and house music, Artiom found himself visiting Berghain/Panorama Bar’s website to discover new artists to listen to. It is during one of these frequent visits that he decide to analyze all the data provided by the iconic Berlin venue and to present it in a way that usefully depicts trends and important data.

He ended up analyzing 7 years of data from Berghain, Panorama Bar, Lab.oratory and SĂ€ule to find out who are the most booked DJs, who is trending right now and a lot more. To extrapolate all the information, Artiom went through 8,253 total artist bookings, 21% of them LIVE acts.

G20 Berlin Cops Partied So Hard They Had to Be Sent Home

When the rave bug hits you, it hits you hard, and no one is exempt from it. Not even cops.

That is exactly what happened when three squads of the Berlin’s police force had to be sent home after partying too hard at a party they threw leading up to the G20 summit next week.

Berlin’s squads 14, 15 and 32 were actually stationed in Hamburg in preparation for the political event, and it is at their headquarters where they were stationed that they instigated a huge party that spiraled out of control. There they drank heavily, urinated in the open on surrounding fences, and engaged in public sex as loud music played.

Q&A and Premiere: Daniel Boon Releases Debut Album “Boon & Bane” on Neuhain Recordings

Boon & Bane is an exciting long player of Berlin techno DJ/Producer, Daniel Boon, a highly intelligent man who likes to think outside the box, creating a unique blend of underground sounds. His long-awaited first album which have been carefully built over the last year, reveals Daniel Boon’s widely rich musical identity through 10 awe-inspiring tracks!

The debut album comes out comes out on his own imprint Neuhain Recordings, a techno label with recent releases from David Ternessi, Crazy
Sonic and Superstrobe. Boon is responsible for numerous parties throughout Berlin in the late ’90s and early to mid 2000s, including club nights at the legendary old Tresor club and the now closed Maria Am Ostbahnhof. Furthermore Boon also founded Ostfunk Records with Oliver Tatsch in 2005 which became one of Berlin’s leading techno labels.

Boon & Bane is an exploration of textures. Each track has its own sonic character whether that’s the growling rumbles in “Fade Array” or the noise explosions in “Inside Symmetry”. The percussion is warm and expertly laid, often within the form of polyrhythms. “Demand Echoes” for example
bleeps in and out while carrying a crunch of a clap which is a welcome theme throughout. The reverse synth percs in Fallback Audio show Boon’s minimalistic calibre while tracks like “Rattle Blade” and “Shadow Forecast’s” vocal-use give rave nostalgia. “Humo Routine” sticks out as a garage house influenced shuffle techno hybrid with a wobble-esque bassline, perfectly giving the middle of the album a breath.

You Can Now Purchase a Piece of Berghain’s Iconic Mural

Want to own a piece of techno history? You now can if you get your hands on one of Berghain’s most treasured souvenirs!

The iconic mural that used to line up the club’s famed entrance has recently been taken down, with pieces now up for sale. The tiled mural, made by artist Piotr Nathan, was called Rituals Of Disappearance and had greeted club goers and Berghain rejects alike since the venue opened back in 2004.

Berghain ownership is renovating the club’s entrance area, which is why the art work was dismantled and all 171 aluminum panels of Rituals Of Disappearance put on sale. There is no denying that a piece of Berghain’s iconic entrance would be a pretty amazing art addition to any techno lover’s home.

Piotr himself explained that he hopes the pieces find their way into the home of those who have come to celebrate Berghain and inside it, “After all, this massive mural, although conceived in form and content for a museum, was ultimately designed and realized in this extraordinary club. I compare partying at Berghain to cultic celebrations of indigenous tribes.”

The price for each tile isn’t cheap, at $500 each. Pieces of Piotr Nathan’s Rituals Of Disappearance can be bought via an exclusive website hosted by Berghain.

“Ever wanted to go to Berghain with a Berliner? Airbnb could soon help to make that happen”

No we are not making this up: Airbnb seriously thinks they can pair travelers up with Berliners for the ultimate clubbing experience inside Berghain/Panorama Bar.

The San Francisco tech giant is rolling out a new service soon which will focus on on allowing Berliners to offer “experiences” to those visiting the city as tourists. Nathan Blecharczyk, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Airbnb, stated Friday that Berliners on Airbnb will be able to welcome visitors to the city as well as curious locals on paid experiences, beginning this coming May. These experiences will supposedly include going out for drinks and clubbing.

The app’s offerings are expanding, added Blecharczyk, “We’re really repositioning Airbnb as a platform for the entire trip.” According to his speech to entrepreneurs and tech workers at the Factory hub in the German City, soon Airbnb will aim to offer flights and other travel services through its app. The experiences idea isn’t new for Airbnb, with the company offering the service in 13 other cities throughout the world. The plan is to expand this to a total of 51 cities by the end of 2017, exponentially growing the list of experiences provided from the current number of 700 available through the app.

The billionaire explained how currently travelers can use the company’s experiences feature to go foraging for mushrooms, hiking, marathon training in Nairobi, or cycling in San Francisco. “Our most popular one [city] so far is Havana, Cuba,” he added. “You go to Havana and it’s really hard to get plugged into the local scene or know how to find things and experience the culture. It’s really a bi-directional thing. It’s not just a way to make money. It’s a way to meet people.”

It’s unclear how exactly Airbnb seems to intend to guarantee guests entry into Berghain, a feat considering the club’s door policy and the reason it exists in the first place is to prevent this type of situation from occurring. While a Berghain experience seems a little questionable, it’s entirely possible for Airbnb experiences to offer a more realistic clubbing experience in the city, with plenty of other options to choose from on any given weekend night.

After all, it happens to almost everyone to get turned away from Berghain at least once, and it hardly ever means that the party stops there!

Berghain To Open New SĂ€ule Floor In March

The famed Berghain is expanding next month with the opening of a brand-new floor called SÀule.

Set to open on Thursday, March 23rd with experimental acts Alessandro Adriani, Natalia Escobar and Deena Abdelwahed billed for the occasion, it is unsure exactly where SÀule will be located.

The room, which literally translates to “pillar” from German, is likely to be situated in a ground-floor area underneath the Berghain dance floor that has recently been closed for construction. Following opening night, SĂ€ule will be taken over by Dis Fig, Illum Sphere and Laura Clock at midnight on Friday, March 23rd.

Resident Advisor has reported that the long-running Get Perlonized! party held at the upstairs Panorama Bar on March 4th may have been canceled, as the listing was deleted from their site this week. It’s unsure whether the Friday night events held there will no longer occur as of yet.
