Berghain’s Ben Klock played a 12-hour set to close out the Berlin club’s New Year’s marathon celebration on January 4th. Now, it’s your chance to own a piece of that night: a banana he reportedly handed over to a fan when his set was over, who has since put it up for auction on eBay.
The role of the banana during marathon sets has been well documented in the past, with many artists choosing it as a snack of choice thanks to its mix of vitamins, minerals, and low glycemic carbohydrates.
The seller notes: “He handed it to me as a sop of his conscience after remaining ravers and me begged him to play another last record – I kissed his hand, he kissed mine and the banana was the physical bond of ours, of this moment. He explained he had some before and they were delicious; I believe him, his banana still looks yummy! I am leaving town soon and can’t take care of this precious diamond so decided to sell it here. Hope it finds a good home. Can be used/appreciated in several ways.

Electronic music has undeniably influenced the entire world in an amazing way. Behind the music, there is a DJ who can masterfully orchestrate sounds that hypnotize and captivate the audience. Everyone in this community has a certain sound or a certain DJ that makes them tick; we all have a favorite. Has a DJ ever made you dance so much that everything around you just melted away? Was there a moment when the DJ got you dancing like there’s no tomorrow? We asked the 6AM Group team members: “Who’s your Top 5 Underground DJs?” It’s a very difficult question to answer. There were some phenomenal DJs listed in the answers, but there were a few DJs that stood out a little more than the others. Below are some of the DJs that were named more than once from our results:
Ben Klock: You might see this German techno DJ and producer play at the Berghain in Berlin and all around the world. Ben ranked 6th on RA’s Top 100 2014. He also runs a label: Klockworks. Check out this set from Berghain:
Dubfire: You might also know him as 1/2 of Deep Dish. Label boss to SCI+TEC, he’s a techno DJ with a polished sound. You can always count on Dubfire to kill the dance floor every time with his rolling bass lines and that signature Dubfire effect. Hear what I’m talking about below:
Martinez Brothers: These brothers from the Bronx have made one hell of a mark on the industry. They have been on the road since high school and are definitely emerging leaders in the global house scene. They have held a residency at one of the world’s best clubs, DC-10, since 2011 and show no signs of slowing down. Check out this set from Ultra 2014 Sunday Underground Stage:

Marco Carola: This Italian DJ had the most votes from 6AM Group team members. Label boss of Music On and leading the biggest underground party in Ibiza, Friday nights at Amnesia. RA ranked him at 17 on this year’s Top 100. At the top of his game, Marco is not going anywhere. Check out one of his sets below:
The above DJs were just a drop in the bucket. There are still several DJs that have not been mentioned that are followed closely by 6AM Group members. Taipei City is about to get a serious dose of Berlin techno starting this Saturday at KORNER, Taipei’s premiere underground event space, as they celebrate their 2 year anniversary with a stellar three show line up spanning the course of two weeks featuring Ben Klock (Dec 6th), Nina Kraviz (Dec 12th), Marcel Dettmann (Dec 19th).
This is possibly one of the boldest bookings in such a short span to come through Taipei city. KORNER’s brand and vision has remained consistent since day one by developing a platform for cutting edge electronic music and visual artists to showcase their talent aimed towards an explosion of sensual overload. 2014 has been a massive year for KORNER with quality bookings such as Ben UFO, Midland, DJ Nobu, Gerd Janson, Jesse Rose, Regis, Scuba, DVS1, John Osborn and more all making their debut showcase in Taipei.
The underground electronic music community in Asia is currently seeing a surge of top international acts making regular stops in the region further proving that the movement is alive and well. While these top acts are considered elites in our industry, they are still known to be somewhat risky in places like Taipei where house & techno events are currently seeing difficult times recently with non-sensible raids at clubs and parties creating a difficult barrier for innovative artists and promoters in Taiwan to flourish in the scene. We wish the team at KORNER the very best as they get ready for a massive two week stretch that we hope will pave the future for Taiwan’s electronic music industry. Techno fans in Asia are in for a special one. The Berghain resident and Klockwork label head, Ben Klock, has announced four shows in Asia next month beginning with a set at Level 41 in Dubai on December 5th where support will be provided by Deian and Gabriel Floriani. The following night Klock heads to Taiwan for the 2nd birthday of Taipei club Korner which also features Ukranian label mate Etapp Kyle and local DJ Diskonnected, then he flies to Hong Kong on the 12th to play a Push party at Volar with residents Frankielam, AKW and Lukas. His final gig will be at Womb in Tokyo on December 13th where he’ll share the bill with Loco Dice.
