Alleged Racism, Bullying, and Sexism at Beatport
Black Artist Database (B.A.D.) has suspended its relationship with Beatport’s editorial arm, Beatportal, with immediate effect. B.A.D. released a statement on August 24th, via Instagram. The decision was made in response to a VICE article yesterday that details allegations of workplace racism, bullying, and sexism at Beatport.
“Once we have conducted our internal review, we will return with further course of action,” B.A.D. wrote. “We draw significant support from the shared experiences of our community, and we remain faithful to our goal of amplifying these voices and experiences.”
Beatport ReConnect Summit Announces New York Lineup
Beatport has announced it will host the first-ever ReConnect Summit in Brooklyn, New York, on September 21st and 22nd. The two-day event will center around electronic music culture â featuring speakers from the business and artistic communities covering creative innovation, technology, Web 3.0, and more. Details of the ReConnect Summitâs evening performers and complete schedule will arrive later this summer.

Beatportâs New South-African Genre: Amapiano
Beatport has added amapiano to its list of genres. The digital music retailer says the change is to help fans “discover the sound, translating into improved sales for artists and labels, and a better customer experience, as fans can find music that is truly representative of the amapiano culture.”
Techno Against War x Suara, Beatport & UNICEF
In support of the ongoing crisis thatâs taking place in Ukraine, Suara (the electronic label run by Coyu) and Beatport have released a compiled track full of 50 various, but relevant artists within the techno scene. The album, âTechno Against Warâ will have all monetary proceeds go towards UNICEF â  towards the people most in need of the war taking place in Ukraine.
