Living a Life of Vibrancy With Lee Ann Roberts

In Lee Ann Roberts’ hands, even the hardest techno can have subtlety and soul. The Amsterdam-based, South African-born artist has become a prominent force in the global techno scene thanks to her fierce determination and vibrant creative touch. She leads with her own NowNow label — a self-reliant platform that nods to the South African colloquialism meaning “soon”, which means a call to surrender to the moment, and follow where the music takes you. It’s a mantra she’s lived by as her career has sharply risen — from debuting on Spanish label Suara with “Miyamoto” and instantly scoring number two on Beatport’s Hard Techno chart.

She’s simultaneously been growing NowNow with her own productions and dropping alongside remixes from verified legends like D.A.V.E. The Drummer, Jay Clarke, and Dense & Pika. The vitality in Roberts’ sound undoubtedly comes from her broad outlook, inspired as much by the revolutionary misfits of rock as the visionary pioneers of electronic music. Her attraction to unusual and distinctive qualities in the music she makes and plays all add up to one of the most exciting forces in contemporary techno.

A Damn Good Time At Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) 2022

A few years ago, just before the year that shall not be named, I had the great pleasure of visiting the famous city of Amsterdam. I had an amazing time there, and experienced the rich nightlife and culture the city and it’s notoriously tall and friendly people had to offer. One moment that stuck out though, was a conversation with a stranger that I met on the dance floor on a Tuesday night.  This gentleman mentioned to me that I should come back for the Amsterdam Dance Event, also known as ADE. A few years later, after going through a complete career change and a pandemic; this October I finally had the chance to attend my first ADE.

Listen to Premiere: Keith Carnal “Ape Shit Crazy” – BPitch

“Ape Shit Crazy” takes listeners straight into the depths of Keith Carnal’s wild mind. It’s a bombastic cut that utilizes a pitched down spoken word vocal. The storyteller takes its listeners into the world of after party excess and “ape shit craziness” as the beats pump relentlessly. It’s debauched, heavy and utterly alluring.

Solo sober raving

Op-Ed: Why You Should Try Solo & Sober Raving

Solo and sober raving feel like taboo subjects in the electronic music scene. If you’ve never raved solo before, then just the thought of being alone at a rave can feel terrifying. You know like eating alone at a high school cafeteria. If you’ve never raved sober before, then you might think the experience won’t be as good. Coming from the standpoint of someone who’s done this (solo and sober raving) multiple times, I encourage you to try it once. Some of my most eye-opening and inspirational experiences in the electronic music scene have stemmed from going to raves sober and by myself.
