Amnesia Ibiza Launches New KV2 Audio Sound System, Dubbed the “Most Advanced Sound System in the World”

Iconic Ibiza club Amnesia is the first venue on the island to boast the most revolutionary sound of the 21st century from KV2 Audio, conceived and designed by the legendary pro audio pioneer, George Krampera.

KV2 Audio systems are the result of many years of research into the most honest and accurate reproduction of the original sound source. Those who have already had the chance to listen to a KV2 system say that it “truly captures the emotions of an artist’s performance” and that the audio is “incredibly defined, transparent and real” – a system that brings together art and science to create an undeniable and unforgettable clubbing experience.

Police Seize Over €300k Cash from Amnesia Ibiza Owner

Guardia Civil Ibiza

Amnesia Ibiza owner Martin Ferrer, following his arrest earlier in the summer as part of a country-wide federal tax investigation, has just had over €300k cash seized from him by local Ibiza officials.

The cash seizure, which occurred from security boxes at several of the island’s banks, is the latest development of a tax fraud and money laundering police probe that has seen most of the island’s clubs targeted as well as tens of others on the Spanish mainland. In early July agents raided the San Rafael club, arrested Ferrer, his son and two other employees while confiscating roughly €2 million in cash found hidden inside the venue.

Diario de Ibiza reported that yesterday morning, 6th of October, Guardia Civil police officers from Mallorca visited Banco Sabadell and BMN to look into deposit boxes there, while a third deposit box on a boat belonging to Ferrer was also searched. The total amount of money now seized from Amnesia is roughly €2.2million. The four men arrested in July — Martin Ferrer, Marti Ferrer, David de Felipe (general/business manager of Amnesia) and Vicente PĂ©rez de Montis (accountant) — are all out on bail at this moment.

Spanish Authorities Have Also Searched Space and Privilege Nightclubs in Ibiza

Following two long raids at Amnesia Ibiza by Spanish authorities, including an initial seventeen-hour search and a second one that uncovered over 2 million Euros in cash stashed in hidden compartments, the Tax Agency (AEAT) of Spain has gone on to search Space and Privilege.

Local news outlet Diario de Ibiza, who has kept abreast on the investigation, reports that the AEAT is looking into around 87 nightlife spots across the entire country of Spain, including four on the Balearic island and international clubbing destination. Four people were arrested during the Amnesia raids, with a total of fourteen individuals reportedly under investigation at the current moment.

The AEAT was assisted by Police in their searches of Space and Privilege, with latest reports claiming that other large sums of money were found during these latter parts of the ongoing Operation Chopin investigation.

According to another Spanish newspaper, El Mundo, the four people arrested in the Amnesia operation have been given conditional release — they must periodically appear before a judge and cannot leave Spain without permission. Their passports must also be handed in to authorities as part of their release.

Spanish Police Returned for Second Raid at Amnesia Ibiza and Found €2 Million in Cash

Guardia Civil

Following a 17-hour search of the San Rafael mega-club, Spanish police returned to Amnesia Ibiza this morning to continue their investigation.

Local news outlet Diario de Ibiza continued to keep on top of the story, first reporting that police searched the venue from 7am until midnight, before allowing it to re-open for Together. It was at first unsure whether the party would still go on, Together even tweeting that it was canceled before announcing that it was still happening.

As reported yesterday, a total of four people have been arrested as part of the investigation: Amnesia owner Martin Ferrer, his son and Amnesia’s artistic director Marti Ferrer, the venue’s general/business manager David de Felipe and Amnesia accountant Vicente PĂ©rez de Montis.

The Diario de Ibiza has continued to report that the investigation is looking into “alleged crimes against the Treasury” and has expanded its raids to the suspects’ properties in Ibiza and Barcelona, as well as a boat owned by club owner Martin Ferrer and an Ibiza-based IT company linked with the club.

Edit 5:20pm EST: According to Diario de Ibiza, police have been using pick axes to find hidden compartments at Amnesia and discovered over €2 million in cash hidden inside the club. The investigation began following a complaint filed last fall by the state alleging that they had detected discrepancies in their tax payments.

The club will remain open tonight for Hyte, as announced by the promoter on social media networks.

Amnesia Ibiza Raided by Local Police

Amnesia

Spanish police stormed Amnesia Ibiza and arrested the club owner.

The news was broken by Diario de Ibiza, who revealed that Spanish Guardia Civil raided the San Rafael clubbing institution arriving via helicopter at 8am local time. While reports on the exact nature of the operation are a little confusing, it appears to be a joint operation with tax authorities, drug and organized crime authorities as well as trained dogs. El Mundo asserted that this is an anti-drug sting, confirming that a total of four people have been arrested at Amnesia, including owner Martin Ferrer.

There appears to be a level of secrecy surrounding the operation, but a spokesman for the Guardia Civil in Majorca confirmed, “There is an operation in progress but the court secrecy order means we won’t be making a detailed official comment today or sending out a press release.”

UPDATE 3:51pm PST: Amnesia will be open tonight for Together.

#TBT Series: How Amnesia Ibiza Changed The World of Clubbing in the Late 80’s [Videos]

Amnesia 80s pic 1

This week’s #TBT Series installment takes us back 27 years to the heydays of Ibiza partying, and to one of the most revered clubbing destinations in the world: Amnesia Ibiza.

The 5,000 plus capacity venue opened in 1976 and is one of only two major clubs on the island located close to the village of San Rafael, half-way between Ibiza Town and San Antonio. While the infamous open-air terrace is now closed, sunrise still peeks in through clear windows to welcome some of the most memorable sunrise sets on the island today.

By the end of the 80s, Amnesia had undergone massive changes after over a decade of operation. Dance music was playing through the speakers and major clubs on the island had introduced the concept of open-air dance floors. Balearic house was gaining major traction thanks to legendary acts like DJ Alfredo Fiorito (also known simply as DJ Alfredo) and DJ Huggy MacPherson, who both held major residencies at the San Rafael nightclub . Their sound took a while to catch on with Ibiza crowd at first, but later became focal points of the club’s expansion thanks to a blend of rock, pop, soul, hip-hop and proto-house that had never been played on the island before.

While in 2016 we are seeing island government pass laws forcing clubs to stop music at 6:30am, in the late 80s Amnesia opened at 3am and went through to midday or later. British house music DJ Danny Rampling famously recalled, “Amnesia was a complete revelation. Alfredo, as a DJ, blended texture and music in a way I would compare to a Miro painting. For me, he was the Larry Levan of Europe. Interestingly, Alfredo was connected to an American who was part of the Paradise Garage group, who used to supply him records. Dancing in the open air, surrounded by an incredible mix of sexy people was mind-blowing.”

Paul Oakenfold was another famous name hooked on the Ibiza club during that time, recalling how its sound stood out in contrast to London and the rest of mainland Europe, “In England at that time, clubs only played one type of music, and London was full of attitude.  But at Amnesia you had 7,000 people dancing to Cyndi Lauper.  Total freedom.”

Amnesia Flyer

Amnesia was the destination clubbers would choose when other venues shut down, driving inland for a taste of music and experience unlike any other that existed at the time. In those years, the club was surrounded by massive white washed walls with a large mirrored pyramid in the middle of the dance floor; the bars were around the sides as was plenty of cushioned seating for party goers to chill out on. As you can imagine, this was before bottle service was truly a thing.

The open-aspect layout of the venue meant that up to 7,000 revelers flowed in to enjoy an eclectic selection of music under the Mediterranean air and stars, all the while being engulfed by exotic plants and like-minded ravers from all over the world. There were no laws, with people dressing up, drinking and rampant drug usage – anything was allowed; it was clubbing freedom at its best.

Amnesia’s nights ultimately took a pivotal role in the future of British clubbing of the late 80s and early 90s. Oakenfold, Rampling and fellow London DJs and club promoters Nicky Holloway and Johnny Walker would visit during summer and return back to England influenced by the sounds and atmosphere of their Ibicencan experiences. Oakenfold launched invite-only “Ibiza-inspired” nights that began at 2am following his hip-hop sets at a a club in Streatham. The success was so big that each member of this crew all moved onto to establishing their own successful clubs and nights: Oakenfold started Spectrum, Rampling started Shoom and Holloway started the Trip. The sheer popularity and boom of their ventures went on to shape an entire series of raves and parties all over England and beyond – while it would be unfair to say that those wouldn’t have happened without Amnesia, it would also be unjust to not credit the locale that provided that initial artistic spark and inspiration.

Currently the club holds some of the most notable residencies on the island, including Cocoon by Sven VĂ€th on Monday nights, Together on Tuesdays, Hyte on Wednesdays, British-run Cream on Thursday nights, Marco Carola’s Music On every Friday and MatinĂ©e on Saturdays. This major powerhouse of worlwide clubbing has changed a lot since the late 80s and early 90s – years that saw Amnesia truly impact a generation with its lawless parties. Although the club has expanded and adapted to today’s ever-changing global electronic music scene, it has remained as relevant and influential as it was back when DJ Alfredo was its only resident.

Below is a series of videos from Amnesia’s Closing Party on October 3rd of 1989. Needless to say, Alfredo Fiorito was behind the decks, with Adamski playing live on the piano and Boy George also present in the building that night.

Going to Ibiza? New Holiday Tax Goes Into Effect This Summer

IbizaBeach

News has just come in that anyone traveling to Ibiza from July 1st onwards will be subjected to a new ‘Sustainable Tourist Tax’, with the funds collected going towards protecting the beautiful resources of the magical island. This is the latest change following news that local government will be forcing clubs to close doors at 6:30am starting this summer.

The tax is being excised by the government of the Balearic Islands, meaning that  it will be applicable to other Mediterranean islands that fall under its jurisdiction such as Majorca and Menorca. The tax will be collected at the traveler’s accommodation, and will vary depending on the type of housing chosen for the vacation. It will begin at €0.50 per day for hostels and campsites and go up to €2 for luxury hotels.

Anyone traveling to Malta will also be subjected to a similar tax this summer, with those 18 year olds expected to pay €0.50 per night from June. Mainland Spain and other Mediterranean locations are = not included in this new tax.

Back in 2002 the islands introduced a similar tax, but back then the results weren’t successful causing it to be canceled after just one season. At the time holiday makers decided to travel elsewhere as a result, with Turkey, Egypt and and Tunisia reaping most of the benefits. Due to recent reluctance of people to visit these latter countries, it is expected that tourism to the Balearic islands won’t suffer from this new tax. In fact, Spain as a whole is expected to have it’s most successful summer ever according to The
