How YLYNE Blends the Unexpected With Techno

YLYNE is the project of the Italian guitar player, composer, and producer Frank Martino. Frank is an eclectic musician comfortable with rock, electronics, and jazz. In 2012 he graduated with full marks in Jazz Music at the G. Frescobaldi Conservatory of Music in Ferrara, Italy. For over ten years he has dedicated himself to jazz and electronic music, bringing this approach into various projects.

He released three solo albums with his band, Disorgan, via Auand Records, an Italian independent label dedicated to genre-defying music, providing a home for artists who push the boundaries of improvised music: Revert in 2016, Level 2 Chaotic Swing in 2018, and Ego Boost in 2020. As a producer and under the pseudonym of YLYNE he has released two Eps in 2014 (5 Ways To and AB+) and two albums, 26 (2017) and Odd Dance Music (2021).

Line Up, his new single, blends dance music with dub and African-derived rhythms into a stunning hypnotic progression. The track was produced and live recorded entirely on synths, drum machines, and samplers.

German Brigante and Yamil’s Moroccan Twist on “Basari” EP

Sabo’s record label Sol Selectas presents a collaborative release by Spanish artists German Brigante and Yamil. On this track, German Brigante and Yamil are both influenced by the traditional Gnawa music of Morocco as they incorporate funky basslines and melodic elements that are intertwined with tribal percussion, and ethereal vocal chants.

On similar tracks, Amine K (Moroko Loko) and Mr. ID are featured remixers on the EP — both of who are Morocco’s renowned electronic music artists. So who better to rework tracks inspired by the traditional music of their homeland?

Tech-House Shown as Most Popular Electronic Music Genre

According to a newly released business report presented at Ibiza’s International Music Summit (IMS), tech-house has overtaken techno as the most popular electronic genre. The report stated that the genre shot past the previous favorite in Beatport sales in 2021, marking it the new best-seller.

After holding second place for the past two years, tech-house has officially climbed one space up the rankings, while house music stays in the third spot, and techno moves down to second place.
