All facets of global dance and electronic music culture will unite for the world’s largest club festival in October 2016. The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) will take place this year from the 19th to the 23rd of October with an expected 375,000 national and international visitors for its 21st edition.

ADE has continued to grow over the years morphing into the leading platform for the international dance scene. In 2015 alone, the festival featured 2289 artists playing in 100 venues over and for a large number of separate club night events, and a total of 500 speakers taking part in nine different conference streams. 2016 is poised to see festival organizers expand operations, including its extensive film, art, and audiovisual program and the number of day and nighttime activities.

“ADE has developed into a platform where every aspect of the global phenomenon that is dance music culture comes together. It is fantastic to see that Amsterdam has become a global destination for both music lovers and the music industry,” says ADE Director Richard Zijlma.

Jeff Mills Transported Into the Time Tunnel by Little Alien People at ADE Performance

October 21, 2015. On this very day, Marty McFly travels into the future to save his children in Back to the Future Part II. In an alternate universe, little aliens appeared at Jeff Mills’ performance at ADE and brought him through the Time Tunnel. So in honor of Back to the Future Day and Jeff Mills’ out-of-this-world performance, we dive down the rabbit hole of techno and its relation with futurism and science fiction.

Techno came about as an assimilation of ideas about music and futurism (afrofuturism in the Detroit scene) in a progressive society that coincided with developments in modernism, capitalism, and technological spirituality, Ă  la Alvin Toffler’s The Third Wave. This is where the term “techno rebel” became synchronized with the identity of being one who listens to techno music. Read more

Seth Troxler’s Epic Cookout for the Homeless in Amsterdam

As Amsterdam Dance Event draws nearer, October 14 will see an act of philanthropy. Seth Troxler will be cooking three-course meals for homeless people at one of the walk-in shelters run by De Regenboog Groep in Amsterdam. The group along with ADE, 10,000 Hours, and Troxler himself will draw the community together for a shared love of music and food.

“People shouldn’t be hungry,” the world-renowned DJ states frankly. After a triple winning streak at the annual ADE DJ Cook Off and being a part of the jury twice, Seth talks of his involvement in cooking for the homeless as a move toward larger social change.

“I think people involved in dance music are generally people who are a bit more empathetic. Maybe this comes from dancing or just because of that unity feeling on the dance floor. Because on the dance floor different people and different cultures open up about their lives and open their minds about how they can be as people. So utilizing this movement as in music to also be a social movement is pretty profound.” – Seth Troxler

Music has always been a source of significant change, whether in the realm of creativity or social movement. It is a unifying point that draws little distinction among its participants. Music also creates a subliminal awareness of the fundamental emotions that drive the practice of empathy and of forming community. So with bellies full and infectious smiles, ADE will set the standard as a progressive music event that goes beyond simply showcasing music. ADE liberates the boundaries between craft and appreciation of sound and opens its doors for all to bring a little something to contribute to the experience.
