Diggind Deeper at ADE: Steve Lawler Talks About His New Ibiza Residency, Vacations and Up-And-Coming Artists

A child of the Acid House generation of the ’90s, Steve Lawler has been pushing the gender boundaries for decades as a promoter, producer, DJ and of course as the head of the infamous VIVa MUSiC founded in 2006.

A constant presence in Ibiza throughout the summer, Steve earned his first residency on the island by handing in a mixtape at CafƩ Mambo and the rest, as they say, is history. He continues to remain at the forefront of the electronic industry by constantly innovating and curating, both as a party curator, a label manager and of course an artist himself.

We caught up with him during his most recent U.S. tour, where he played clubs such as Coda in Toronto, Heart in Miami, Beta in Denver and Output in New York.

Why We’re Heading To ADE Again

These past few days, the organizers behind Amsterdam Dance Event, the twenty-year old event that gathers together the global electronic music community in the Dutch capital, have been busy preparing for the festival set to take place next week. This has gotten people excited once more, as music genres will cross over in an open and receptive environment that Amsterdam offers. Indeed, ADE provides a strong sense of inclusiveness and the desire to let itself be infected by what spontaneously confronts us every single day, at the level of art, entertainment and innovation.

In addition to the usual, huge musical programme that will try to break the already monumental figures of last year (2200 artists involved in more than 500 events) and an equally vast day program of panels, workshops, hands-on activities, and interactions with other musicians and fans, attendees can expect to be able to grab a beer and indulge in what goes on throughout the event that has been steadily progressing year after year, not only artistically but also economically.

As it has been for a few years now, we at 6AM will not miss the opportunity to witness what without doubt is going to be one of the year’s massive events. Not only do we look forward to the artists performing at the event. We also look forward to the positive developments that can possibly occur as we enjoy the music that will be played there.

After we went last year we returned to Los Angeles hungrier than ever. We were hungry to do more, and to do better. We were inspired by the events, the artists who played, the panels and the way the entire city embraced electronic music as one. A testament to that has been our series of WORK by 6AM and Synthetik Minds events, as well as the launch of COMPOUND 2017.

We know we will feel the same way as we make our return in just under two weeks. But until then, we ready up for what is bound to be a full 6 days of immersion split between meetings, artist interviews, conferences and out-of-this-world techno and house events.

We hope you can check out ADE 2017 and us as well at the event from 18 to 22 October. For more information, visit the official website of the ADE.

Life and Death Announces “Displaced Soundtracks” Ahead of ADE Showcase

Record label Life and Death is celebrating its 7th anniversary this year with the release of its third and most adventurous compilation release to date: Displaced Soundtracks.

Set to be the first installment in a new series, this compilation sees label founder DJ Tennis give free rein to some of his most trusted contemporaries. This has made possible for many of today’s most respected dance music producers the chance display their hidden talents as composers. Gathering music from a long-aborted film, the collection stands as another bastion of Life and Death’s perpetual evolution.

Displaced Soundtracks features Duncan Gray‘s embracing dissonance, Black Merlin, Appleblim and Artefakt going interstellar and Fango channeling post-punk squat music. Hades Rocket also showcases the expertly-sequenced synth work that has graced Simian Mobile Disco’s illustrious career, while Redshape revisits all the right sides of 80’s Wave and Library music. Danny Daze and synth-savant KINK embrace non-standard tempi with great success, while Axel Boman delivers sitar-laced gospel-house without a bass drum. Elsewhere, your favorite producer’s favorite producer, Stimming, teams up with pianist Lambert and magic happens as a result.

ADE 2017: Protecting Mental Health in the Electronic Music Industry

Mental health is an issue that has been cause of concern in the music industry today. More so in the electronic music genre, whereĀ at least a staggering 30% of electronic artists have experienced mental health issues at one time or another.

With such figures, coupled with the highly demanding nature of the industry, there is a tremendous need to raise awareness on the importance of caring for mental health. Fortunately, organizers such as Amsterdam Dance Event have stepped in to help raise awareness and tackle these issues.

This year Amsterdam Dance Event will be holding a conference titled “Protecting Mental & Physical Health for Fans & Professionals”. Organized by theĀ Association For Electronic Music (AFEM), this conference will bring together a panel of industry pros to share their views on subjects such as negotiating depression and anxiety, caring for hearing and dealing with tinnitus, and advice on where to get help if needed.

Expected to speak at the conference are DJsĀ Ben Pearce of Purp & Soul, Juan Atkins, Pig&Dan and Christine Brown,Ā Director of External Affairs at Help Musicians. Moderating the conference is Arash Shirazi, President of talent agency The Bullit Agency.

The conference will be held at the Delamar Theater in Marnixstraat 402, Amsterdam on October 18, from 12:20 PM to 1 PM. For tickets and other information on the event, visit the event page at the Amsterdam Dance Event website.

ADE 2017 Will Feature Four Events With Focus on Asia

That Asia is the next big market for the electronic music world doesn’t surprise most people, certainly not us at 6AM who have been involved with the region since our beginnings.

This is reflected by the attention the region is getting during this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), set to take place October 18-22nd throughout the world-famous Dutch city.

This year the festival programme includes four separate events specifically focusing on Asia:
