Josh Garcia aka Modus has built a steady reputation for being one of the up and coming musical tastemakers, selectors, and producers. The Los Angeles native is a musically trained drummer and guitarist — music naturally became an innate part of Modus’ life.
Since starting out his career performing in Barcelona clubs while living abroad, Modus has had the opportunity to play amongst the world’s leading musical heavyweights and DJ superstars such as: Adam Beyer, Claude Von Stroke, Justin Martin, Paul Ritch, Pleasurekraft, and Simian Mobile Disco at Los Angeles’ top venues that include: Sound Nightclub, Avalon, Exchange LA, as well as the popular music festival, Electric Daisy Carnival.
On May 15th Modus will be releasing his latest EP, a two-track combo entitled Perceptions that will be out via LA based record label Understated Recordings.

“‘Let’s Make It’ is the first track I made with my OB-6 synthesizer. I made the drums, started jamming on the synth, and the lead progression came out quite nicely. I utilized the OB-6’s filters to create a constantly shifting synth tone that the crowd will enjoy live at a show.
“My Love” is an oldie, but a goody for me. I was sitting on this track for a while and recently played it at an Understated party. The crowd reacted strongly to it and I decided to include it in this EP as the B-side. I really enjoy the vocals in the breakdown and it works wonders on the dance floor. The idea of perception has always resonated with me. The way we perceive and are perceived shapes reality. Through this EP I hope to give the listener a glimpse of the universe through my eyes and ears.” – Modus
Launched in October 2016, Understated is a community, event series, and DJ crew that has been creating some of LA’s most hotly tipped underground parties and club events. Understated Recordings is the label arm of this project, spreading the sounds that are being showcased locally to the rest of the worldwide underground community. The brand was established with the intent of creating a gathering of like-minded creatives seeking to connect via the power of music and satisfy the soul by dancing the night away. Past Understated lineups have included Amtrac, Astronomar, Ciszak, Durante, Egyptian Lover, Eric Sharp, Grensta, Jamie Prado, Mahalo, Masha, PILO, Strange Club, and resident DJs, Monsieur Frazier, Micah Smith, and Hannah Monica.
“I met Josh almost 10 years ago at UCLA. I was just beginning my journey into electronic music and would go out every week to BrewCo, where he held a residency. Sharing a love for music and parties, we quickly became friends and collaborated on music several times over the years. Once Understated began, it was only a matter of time before we would reach out to get him involved. His debut with U|S was a remix he and I did for Eric Sharp & Give In’s ‘Version 3’, followed by a special guest appearance at our takeover of Union’s Circle Bar.
