Premiere: Matuss Releases Seizure No. 9 EP on Absence Seizure

Ukranian DJ-producer Matuss started Absence Seizure in 2015 as a limited edition vinyl imprint in collaboration with Abe Duque. The label thus far has established itself as a platform for Matuss’ productions, showcasing eight releases to date. On March 9th the label saw the release of Seizure No. 9, a new three-track EP.

Matuss’ love for music started at an early age after being exposed to the piano and saxophone as a child, before she later became enveloped in the world of electronic music and within months established herself firmly in the Ukrainian scene. Once in America, Matuss held residencies at clubs in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York, until she found a job as a technician and teacher at the DJ school Dubspot.

With charted releases on Beatport and Seizure No. 9 in tow, Matuss has fast established herself as one of the most in-demand and informed producers of today by pricking the ears of huge names with original releases on own label and her high-quality club sets.

The sound of her latest EP,  Seizure No. 8, was defined as ‘beautifully crafted, cerebral house’ by DJ Mag and gained support by Mixmag.

For Seizure No 9, Matuss continues to deliver deep and soulful techno opening with “Whistler”, filled with heavyweight bass tones, dubbed out drums and obscure synthesizer transitions before “Zoya The Destroyer” provides eerie atmospheres, crisp percussion and subtle mid-range motifs which sit on top of a melodic low-end.

On the flip side we have “Stranger Things”, which sets an ominous tone with murky ambiences and ethereal pads underpinned by a powerful kick, rumbling sub-bass and percolating rhythms to close the release.
