From the hills of Tuscany, this Florentine duo has been on a globe-setting journey over the years to deliver their take on house music. Emiliano Nencioni and Giocomo Godi, best known as Supernova, started Lapsus Music in 2008 and since then have become regulars on the international club circuit while continuing to release quality music on labels such as Kling Klong, Defected, Stereo Productions, Noir, and others.
From Los Angeles to Bali, there’s few places that Supernova hasn’t been. As 2016 carries on Supernova will be making stops in Tucson for Dazed and Confused, and then the duo makes their way to Miami for the annual electronic music migration to Miami for WMC. With such vast experiences traveling, it’s only natural that they have some valuable insight to share.

Hi guys, thanks for taking the time with us! You guys have been all over the world, so I’m sure you have some interesting things to say about your travels. What’s one of your favorite places to visit?Â
Giacomo: Hard to say just one place…we love different places for different reasons…let’s say Bali, NYC, LA, Miami, Tulum and Brazil in general.
Bali sounds like an interesting experience. What makes it so special?Â
Emiliano: Last time we played at Jenja in Bali it was sold out for the second time, and we had the opportunity to stay 3 days in a nice villa in the jungle…amazing place to switch off our mind and make some music. Great gig and a bit of perfect relaxation, nice combo!
G: We usually go to Asia at least once a year while in North and South america at least 2 times a year.
What’s one place you haven’t been, but would like to visit?Â
E: Australia and New Zealand, but it will probably happen soon.
At what point in the musical career did you guys start traveling a lot internationally? What would you say was the turning point from moving beyond the local scene in Italy?
G: We started working around the world after our first album, Downtown Underground, in 2008 and around 2011 bookings outside Italy were already more the 50%. Nowadays we work outside Italy for more then 70%.
I’m sure you’ve seen your fair share of hotels…Can you share with us your worst hotel experience(s)?
E: Well it was in Russia in 2009…we were going from Moscow to another small city inside Russia and that crazy promoter had the brilliant idea to bring us to this small city by train, booking a 3rd class cabin with 4 beds…we did 11 hours by train sharing the cabin with an old Russian woman and the promoter himself!
How often do you have extra days in a particular city? When you have some days off, what do you guys like to do?Â
G: We usually have extra days when we travel in North and South America, or in Asia. We love to take a break, look around in place that we don’t know, and maybe produce some music with a different approach and inspiration compared to the usual studio time.
How often are you guys traveling? When youâre not on the road are you home in Florence?
E: Let’s say we travel almost every weekend. Some of the gigs are in Italy or around Europe, so short ones, but usually once a month we have a longer one. When we don’t travel we stay in Florence where we just bought a new studio and office to produce more music and run our label Lapsus Music.
From your experience, what’s the best airline for getting from the USA to Europe?Â
G: We love Lufthansa, British, Swiss for sure, but lately we had a really nice flights also with a new airplane of American Airlines :)
Whatâs the longest flight youâve been on?
E: Probably from Rome to Bali…around 16 hours
How do you guys handle long flights? Any thing in particular that you do to pass time?
G: Working on the laptop…produce music on flights is always nice, then some movie and a bit of sleep when possible :)
3 things you can’t live without while on tour?Â
E: Melatonine, headphones, power adapter.
Have you guys ever missed a set due to flight issues/delays?
G: Not yet :)
Where will your travels take you over the next few months?Â
E: We are going to start a tour that will bring us in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Tucson, Miami, Tenerife and Houston in less then a month!
