Moscoman Talks About His New EP on Disco Halal and The Influence Israel Has On His Music

Moscoman is just about to release his new EP I Ran on his imprint Disco Halal, the label with which he has been flying the flag for middle-eastern flavored disco and house for the past three years, releasing standout albums and EPs from the likes of DJ Tennis, Autarkic, Simple Symmetry, Naduve and more.
A patented dance floor scorcher, “I Ran” sees Middle-eastern vocals thread their way through a lofty percussive blend, simmering up a psychedelic energy which will be turning dance-floors upside down for times to come. On the flip, trusty Disco Halal comrades Simple Symmetry, the duo responsible for ‘Voodoo Your Ex’, one of 2017’s most rinsed anthems, spin “I Ran” into a chugging guitar anthem, all in cinematic twist and turns.
Moscoman has also announced his upcoming European tour which will see him play throughout the UK, Spain, Portugal, Germany and further afield. 2017 was very much the year he exploded on a global scale with multiple US tours, festival slots at Glastonbury, Primavera, Melt, Farr, Exit, Love International, Lente Kabinet and the launch of his label Treisar through which he released an EP of his own productions every month.
6AM had a chat with the traveling man to discuss the release, his label and the influence his roots have on his musical output.

How has 2018 been treating you so far?

2018 is a good continuation of 2017 and the years before. Every year I build myself more and more.

Congrats on the new EP that came out last week, how long has that been in the making?

I guess the decision to put it out on Disco Halal took a while, because I usually release other people’s music on the label. But it fitted perfectly once the coin dropped. The track itself I made in 8 hours. Not bad for a day’s work.

This is your first solo release on your own label. Why these this specific track and not others?

As I said before, this tune fits the agenda of Disco Halal. Not all my music does but this has a middle eastern vibe and it’s also a very special techno style tune.

“I Ran” is influenced by your roots. What was going through your mind in the studio when producing it?

I guess the sample I used led to the track. A good friend of mine showed me the original and I was captivated by the scales of the classic Iranian poems. One thing led to another, and the tune was ready.

You’re proud of your heritage and roots, as you should be. What specifically about your culture do you feel influences your music?

The warmth of the music, the exploration of new styles, the melting pot of cultures… This is all very Israeli music.

How attached are you still to the local music scene in Israel from which you came?

I’m super attached. I’m a part of it, and I curate it and push it to the outside world. There is amazing music coming out from Israel these days.

What are some of your favorite party spots back home?

The Breakfast Club, Block, Bootleg, Alphabet

What do you foresee in the future of your label, Disco Halal?

I foresee more experimental music. Jazz maybe and basically everything I love and I think other people should listen to.

You’re about to embark on a tour for a couple of months throughout Europe. Any specific dates/venues you’re looking forward to playing?

First and foremost, the crowds are the first thing I look forward to. I’m sure there are going to be some cool gigs in Milano, Dublin, Paris, Hamburg and more.

When can we expect you in the States next?

You can expect me really soon. I’m gonna hit stateside around end of April, debuting in some cool cities I haven’t been to yet like Santa Fe, Las Vegas and also my Coachella debut. And the usual highlights like NY, Miami, LA, Toronto. Good times ahead.

I Ran was released March 16h on vinyl and will be out March 30th digitally
