Chicago’s Paradigm Presents and Collaboraction Theater present the second annual One City Fundraiser for Peace, Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Space Stage Studios, 1844 W. Hubbard St. from noon until 10 p.m.
This all-day, indoor/outdoor event serves as the official launch party for Collaboractionâs upcoming PEACEBOOK Festival, and features over 50 performers, artists and speakers on two stages, bridging the power of music and art to support and raise awareness of Collaboractionâs major new peace initiative. Headliners include internationally revered producer/deejays Lee Foss, Martin Buttrich, and DJ Lady D among others.
Regular entry to One City costs $20 and is available via Eventbrite. A $75 donation includes entry for one plus complimentary drinks for the duration of the event.
The creativity at One City begins at noon with music by local favorite DJ Hiroki. Highlighted performances and must-see acts include an all vinyl DJ set from Chicago Public Media Sound Opinions producer and Reclaimed Soul host, Ayana Contreras of Vocalo.org at 4 p.m. Her vintage soul music set will be followed up by the buzzworthy Mykele Deville & All That Melanin, a live band performing spoken word and conscious hip-hop.
The evening continues with a dance-off in the Dome of Dance and culminates with blistering deejay sets in front of a full wall LED screen by DJ Lady D, Martin Buttrich and Lee Foss, easily some of the worldâs top electronic music talent.
Food from local meats professionals Slow Motion For Meat and beverages courtesy of Breakthru Beverage and Suntory will flow throughout the day. Between music and sneak-peek snippets from PEACEBOOK shows, there will be a moderated panel discussion surrounding Chicagoâs unique problems and finding solutions for bringing peace to Chicago. The entire lineup and tentative schedule for the dayâs performances are online here.
Collaboraction, a 501c3 non-profit organization, elicits social change through original devised theater and community engagement that cultivates knowledge, dialogue and action around Chicagoâs most critical social issues. PEACEBOOK is the companyâs collaborative city-wide festival of theater, dance, music, visual art and spoken word focused on cultivating desperately needed peace in Chicago.
Presented as part of the Chicago Park Districtâs Nights Out in the Park program, and featuring the work of over 200 artists, Collaboractionâs second annual, city-wide PEACEBOOK launches with a one-day, marathon premiere of all 24 chapters on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in the Goodmanâs Owen Theatre, 170 N. Dearborn St., Chicago. Show times are 3 p.m. (PEACEBOOK Englewood), 5:30 p.m. (PEACEBOOK Hermosa) and 8 p.m. (PEACEBOOK Austin). All three programs are presented free of charge. To reserve free tickets, donate what you can, or for more information, visit collaboraction.org/peacebook2017, email boxoffice@collaboraction.org or call Collaboraction, (312) 226-9633.
Following their Goodman debuts, the 24 acts will be divided into three programs of eight works that will tour to Chicagoâs Englewood, Hermosa and Austin neighborhoods in the fall.
Last yearâs inaugural One City fundraiser hosted more than 1,100 supporters and raised over $16,000 to provide free admission to PEACEBOOK for over 2,200 Chicagoans, including free community meals and peace discussions in Englewood, Austin and Uptown. Donations also supported The Collaboraction Youth Peacemakers program working with over 150 teens per year to create theater about peace while empowering the youth.
