Q&A and Global Vibe Radio 144 Feat. Hungry Music (Worakls, N’to & Joachim Pastor)

In honor of Hungry Music’s recent 5th Anniversary Compilation, we invited Worakls, N’to & Joachim Pastor to provide an exclusive one-hour mix of their own material for this week’s Global Vibe Radio episode.

At the end of 2018 Worakls, N’to and Joachim Pastor marked the fifth anniversary of their Hungry Music label with Hungry 5 – an extended compilation, detailing the French collective’s journey through melody.

To celebrate the occasion, the trio presented a limited edition box set, equipped with high-quality triple Vinyl and CD, which also featured a 2018 rework of N’to’s cult-classic cut, “Trauma”, including Worakls’ cherished rendition, as well as a new remix by Joachim Pastor.

On top of the exclusive mix for 6AM, the three artists sat down with a chat to discuss the world of Hungry Music. Enjoy the mix and interview below, with full mix track listing at the end of the article.

Hi guys, congrats on the 5 years of Hungry Music! How has the ride been?

Thank you! It was a truly amazing and unique experience altogether.

Would love to discuss the label with you guys and dive deeper into its creation and where it has gotten to now. Firstly, how did you guys meet?

(N’to) It all started at a festival in the south of France, where Kevin (Worakls) and I were both booked. We got the chance to connect artistically, but then kept in touch and became friends. One year later, we got to know Joachim Pastor and his music, and it just felt natural for the 3 of us to do something together around the connection of our 3 universes – and Hungry Music was born.

What was the first artistic endeavour you embarked on?

(N’to) My first urge was to play an instrument and very naturally I fell in love with the guitar when I was a teenager. It immediately felt like the best way to express myself at the time with my first melodies which were to become more obviously sophisticated when I decided to produce electronic music. But this was just the beginning..

At what point did you decide to start Hungry Music? Was it someone’s idea in particular or did something happen that prompted this decision?

(N’to) Friendship and a common vision on music drove us to create Hungry Music.

First of all, we wanted to be free from any code and to be allowed to tell our stories just the way we felt like telling them without any restrictions or boundaries.

I am sure you all know other talented artists in your scene. Why did you decide that you three were the right people to launch this project with?

(Joachim) Our music is homogeneous, it goes very well together, and yet we really have different styles, that’s why it clicked very well. But most importantly we have the same vision of what Hungry Music should be.

Can you remember what your goals were when you began Hungry Music?

(Joachim) The goal was very simple: being able to release the music we wanted, free of someone else’s artistic direction. We also wanted our own label to release at the rate we wanted.

What have been your biggest obstacles in running a label in this time and how did you overcome them?

(Joachim) To be honest everything is difficult in the beginning, from finding a good distributor, to having good ideas for promotion, organising events etc. But it was a learning by doing process and now for us artists, the hardest is to make relevant music!

Who wears what hat in the label?

(N’to) Each one of us has for sure his own artistic universe but to tell the truth, we are all multitaskers: We like to have an eye on everything and share the ideas as well as the decisions, as this project is like our baby. But by now we also have a full team around us, that focusses on the different fields.

Do you guys ever fight or have conflicts? How do you resolve them?

Never, just love! <3

Of course, all releases are important, but do each of you have a favorite Hungry Music release?

(N’to) In a way, every single track we release is important for me because it comes from a common decision, but my biggest pride will probably be my latest release, “Charlie”  which has just been released. I did it for my son so it’s something really special for me.

(Joachim) All of the label’s release are special, it’s impossible to pick a favourite! You should hear the HM100, release in 2025, it rocks (laughs)

Do you feel the musical direction of the imprint has changed over the years?

(Joachim) I think the music has definitely evolved, because our music is always in movement, but the label itself and the way it works hasn’t changed much, still honest and innocent, just trying to make the best music possible.

How about the goal of the label moving forward. Do you feel it is the same as it was 5 years ago or has it morphed as things progressed?

(Joachim) Our goal with the label is unchanged, having a platform where we can release what we want.

What do you hope to achieve in the next 5 years with Hungry Music?

We are very grateful to be able to do what we love, so we just hope that things keep on going well for us and the label. There are some great things lined up for this year, for example the first solo Worakls album with a special live Orchestra show in 2019 and much more.

Finally one last Q: other than music, what are you must hungry for?

We are always hungry for the Hachis Parmentier de Canard!
