Today we say hello to the weekend with a guest mix from Moonbootica, who have just released their new album Future on Embassy Of Music.
Order Moonbootica’s Future here and read on for our interview with the duo!
Thank you for the wonderful mix and congratulations on the album! How much of it can we find in the mix you recorded for us?
Thank you. In the mix, you’ll find the awesome Piemont remix of our track Lost & Found, as well as loads of other music that we love – since we worked pretty long on the album tracks we were quite happy to hear some different music for the moment ;)
What is the message of this mix?
Quite simple put: Enjoy your night and lose yourself in the music.
Is it the same as Future’s message?
In a way, it is. The second half of Future is exactly that. The first half is different, as it adopts a more universal approach of the music, especially with the lyrics.
Covered In Gold, for example, is a very deep reflection of human emotions. Do Not Do Me (Like Dis) feat. Nneka is reflecting the whole #metoo moment from a woman’s perspective.
All that makes sense on an artist album, but when it comes to DJing and nightlife, we like to keep it straight hedonistic.
Talk to us a little about this album. How long did it take you to put it together and what did you go through personally as you worked on these tracks?
It took us way longer than expected, even longer than our previous albums. We’re about talking three years, with a couple of breaks in the middle. We finished the LP towards the end of 2016, but something just wasn’t right. We thought about it, and confidently threw away half of the songs and started fresh again. It was a very interesting and challenging process, but listening to the album now reassures us that we made the right decision.
Do you have a favorite track from the LP?
It is hard to say but ‘Covered In Gold’ is still giving us goosebumps. The work of Jack Beauregard is quite magical.
You called it “Future”. Why?
The album honestly traces our steps into the future. When we realized this, we had to restart the work on the album and had to let go of some material. This resulted in a much better record in the end and we evolved personally as well as professionally. That’s what we want to express with this album and its name ‘Future’.
What’s your relationship with the past, the present and the future when it comes to your own life?
We are what we are because of our past. However, this album presents to you our present and shines a light into the future of Moonbootica, as artists and as human beings. Our own lives and our artist lives are pretty much the same at this point. We produce music and tour as DJs for almost 20 years now, it has been quite a special journey.
What’s the biggest life lesson from your past that you will be adopting for your own future?
Keep on moving, always look for new interests, stop comparing, learn, evolve & enjoy your life.
What do you see in your future, 5 years from now?
It would be a blessing if we could still live the lives we live right now.
And 10 years?
An even bigger blessing to continue living this way.
The music industry is in constant evolution. Things were so different 15, 10 and even 5 years ago. Do you have any future predictions for this industry?
We just hope that music doesn’t lose any more of its value to the people, it’s a deeply connecting magic that we all should appreciate a lot more.
Let’s think about more concrete things, things closer to today. What else does Moonbootica have in store for 2018?
Right now, we’re heading into the summer season and all of the exciting festival. Its going to be crazy and we can’t wait for it to start. Oh – and we will be going back to the studio shortly to work on the next album.
Thank you!
