Gamma Festival 2018 in St. Petersburg Officially Announced

Gamma Festival, Russia’s biggest music and art festival is set to be held this year in St. Petersburg from July 19th to 22nd.

Now on its third year, Gamma Festival has become an iconic event in Russia, as a “large-scale, innovative, cultural and international event” with “a unique format and content” that combines contemporary art and the latest trends in electronic, instrumental, and academic music.

In addition, the first 10 artists who are set to perform in the festival have been announced. They are: Ancient Methods, Cio D’or, Drumcell, DVS1, Edward, Loscil, ORPHX, Peter Broderick, Roll The Dice, and Shaun Baron-Carvais.

More artists are set to be announced later this month.

The Ancient Methods, Michael Wolenhaupt’s project show, is rarely played live so their performance in the festival is a unique opportunity. This will also be the first time the duo will perform in Russia. Cio D’or, who some people call the Bjork of the ambient, techno and experimental electronics world, returns to the scene in 2018 as well. Cult musician Drumcell will present a hybrid live performance as well, and people can expect something unique of a performance with a new facet of reality and depth.

There is also the influential group DVS1, known for their uncompromising classic techno sound, the ORPHX duo, which has earned a place in the realm of cult electronic musicians of the world, Loscil who is considered to be one of the most interesting ambient musicians and his works could be heard in a lot of famous movies. Also performing is a Giegling resident Edward, who recently released his third album, “Fortune Teller” to some positive feedback.

Roll the Dice, the duo of Peder Mannerfelt and Malcolm Pardon will be there with their signature dramatic sound suitable both for the film and the dance floors, Shaun Baron-Carvais, better known for his alias ShlĂžmo who will bring over to the event an exclusive live program, first introduced to the public at Berlin Atonal festival last year. So is Peter Broderick who will be bringing over his boundless love of music in all of its representations – whether it’s modern neoclassicism or melancholic ambient, touching tranquility or an open nerve of the keyboard.

There will be five stages to be set up all in all. There will also be an art component in the festival which promises a one of a kind experiment aiming to develop and support contemporary art known as “Artification.”
