The name Paradise Garage elicits the not-so-distant nostalgia of the glamorously raw beginnings of a musical genre known as HouseĀ in the growing hustle and bustle of the electronic music scene on theĀ streets of New York City. It all began when Larry Levan and company took to the decks of Paradise Garage in 1977 and established a melting pot of musical influence drawn fromĀ the prominence of UK garage and American discothĆØques at the time as well as theĀ subversion of cultural identities in favor of the dance floor.
On Saturday December 19, KCRW, XLR8R, Live Nation, and Good For You Records are teaming up forĀ a legendary eventĀ in Los Angeles. That’s right, Paradise Garage will experience a revival in the heart of Hollywood with a night of classic disco and house anthems put together by the original Garage residents Joey Llanos and David Depino, and Kenny Summit and friends.
Not only will this event be a momentous shaking of dance music history, the proceeds from theĀ event will go towards the GMHC inĀ raisingĀ awareness and providing resources towards those affectedĀ by HIV/AIDS. Good For You Records will also be releasing theĀ Paradise Garage: InspirationsĀ 12″ compilation in 2016 featuring tracks by household legendsĀ like Frankie Knuckles, Louie Vega, Tony Humphries, Eric Kupper, Kenny Summit and more.
