David Castellani presents ‘Requiem EP’ on his new Noetic imprint, including two explosive & hypnotic originals accompanied by a deep remix via boundary pushing producer Etapp Kyle.
Italian modular synthesist David Castellani will release ‘Requiem EP’ on his newly launched label Noetic this February. Following a string of stand-out releases featuring revered remixers the EP is armed with a rework from Ukrainian producer Etapp Kyle, and follows the launch of Castellani’s ‘Metanoia’ set via Mixmag.
Opening proceedings is ‘Requiem’. Using syncopated rhythms carried on a thunderous kick, Castellani creates a deep Utopian atmosphere. The dense reverb has a hypnotic element, while metallic swipes and an elusive saw wave spiking in the background maintains the celestial feeling. Higher frequencies are exerted during the tracks breakdown, intensifying matters before diving back into the hypnosis.
Next up is the fiery rework from Etapp Kyle. Maintaining the main riff and coy saw wave, he shifts the drumwork into a sputtering, punchy affair. Using distortion and changing the octave of the main sample, the Ukrainian producer pivots the original into an energetic stomper.
Closing out is Absentia, a buoyant and cosmic expedition compiled of jagged chord and gated synth rhythms. Hi-hats open & close throughout along with elastic analogue bleeps that evolve and intertwine around the driving drumwork.
