CRSSD festival returns to San Diegoâs idyllic Waterfront Park this March, showcasing once again, the very best in progressive live and electronic music. The festival celebrates its eleventh edition, with a slew of first time names, including Carl Cox, and returning faves, like recently Grammy nominated RĂFĂS DU SOL.
Since its debut over five years ago, CRSSD has blazed a unique path in the American festival scene. Fiercely independent, CRSSD has championed left of center house and techno in Southern California, bringing some of the worldâs best DJs and producers to its unique oceanfront location, while showcasing the burgeoning power and diversity of live electronic music performance from its main stage.
This yearâs Oceanview live stage is led by two of the most influential and popular acts in live contemporary music. Gesaffelstein leads a heavy French presence at CRSSD, the producer has helped reshape the sound of modern pop, collaborating with the likes of The Weeknd, Kanye West, A$AP Rocky, Pharell Williams and Daft Punk. Ever dramatic, Gesaffelsteinâs singular and expansive sound is hard to pin down, itâs broody, itâs punk and itâs unquestionably cool.
RĂFĂS DU SOL are one of the biggest stories to emerge in electronic music in the last five years, they have rapidly risen from playing intimate club gigs to selling out arenas. Their last CRSSD performance was a watershed moment for the band, drawing one of Ocean Viewâs biggest crowds. 2018âs Solace, was their most ambitious album yet, and saw the live three piece earn two Grammy nominations this year.
Oceanviewâs live performances are rounded out by Detroit house icon Kevin Saunderson and vocalist Paris Greyâs collaborative project Inner City, the OVO signed pair Madjid Jordan, American dance-rockers The Rapture, Belgian powerhouse pioneers Soulwax, Israeli techno punk upstarts Red Axes, rapidly rising star Pluko, and the dramatic pop of Evan Giia and iconic downtempo act TĂ©lĂ©popmusik.
The Palms Stage is CRSSDâs home of house music. Led by local favorite Chris Lake, Grammy-nominated and Purified Records founder Nora en Pure. French touch is also well represented here with a special back to back between 2manydjs and Brodinski, Ătienne de CrĂ©cy, French Express founder Perseus and Club Chevalâs Myd. Disco and upbeat house will be showcased by Purple Disco Machine, while Patrick Topping will mine deeper house vibes. Londonâs Prospa explores more off kilter sounds, while PAX are sure to bring the energy.
Techno underneath an administrative building isnât something youâd typically imagine in America, but thatâs what the dramatic City Steps stage offers. A first time performance from the iconic Carl Cox anchors the stage. Belgiumâs Charlotte de Witte returns, along with and London born Dax J. Exploring more melodic sound palettes will be the legendary progressive duo Hernan Cattaneo B2B Nick Warren and Ben Böhmer live. While Monki, I Hate Models, Radio Slave, Lee K and Kudeki round out the stageâs techno representation.
