Alexi Delano drops a three-track techno EP titled ‘Secret Drones’ and it’s an accomplished selection of tracks that cover a broad spectrum of styles.
Most techno fans need little introduction to Alexi Delano, who since the ‘90s has been releasing music on record labels such as Plus 8, Visionquest, Drumcode, M_nus and Little Helpers. His style ranges from deep and atmospheric, to upbeat and driving, with everything in between. His catalogue also includes stripped-back house music as part of his repertoire.
This latest release opens with the trippy groove of “No Show” which has a lurching bassline and wonky lead synth layered with framework of stripped-back percussion.
The title track “Secret Drones” is up next with its hypnotic groove orientating around deep pads and atmospheric vocal textures. It’s got a dark atmosphere and unfolds with building tension that creates a captivating groove.
“Work” closes out the EP with its flowing tribal percussion that is also layered with twinkling synths and a jackin’ vocal sample to create a track in the hardgroove style.
Overall, it’s a well-produced selection of tracks with a raw and timeless sound, and we are told that it’s already been picking up DJ support by the likes of Alan Fitzpatrick, Vince Watson, Pan-Pot, Truncate and Steffi.
