Unless you were living under a rock this weekend, you would have seen Donald Trump losing to Joe Biden in the U.S. Presidential race. There was a collective exhale that was full of hope and relief. This last election marked the country’s need to make changes and get out of what felt was like a toxic relationship. On Saturday, November 7 several media outlets started reporting election results with Trump losing as Biden became the projected winner of the 2020 presidential election. It felt like the whole world was also celebrating with the United States including artists and celebrities who also shared in the spirited weekend.

2020 hasn’t left room for much celebration or festivities, but this past weekend felt different. It was like all the holidays and any cause for celebration was rolled up into one. This election even got house and techno DJs and producers involved in the time leading up to the election. Check out what they had to say via their socials.

At least for those of us in LA, the Lakers won, dodgers won, Jackie Lacy is out, and Trump has officially lost his job. Time to pop a bottle!

Happy tears and happy feet.
Someone on Trump’s team didn’t fact check the Four Seasons’ location. His team held a news conference at Four Seasons Landscaping, not to be confused with the Four Seasons luxury hotel chain.
This is one of the best things to happen in 2020. https://t.co/gzdUPWef6V

However, there’s also the other side of this coin. What about the 70 million people who voted for Trump? Not everyone is celebrating Trump losing. Patricia Lay-Dorsey aka Grandma Techno shared a message via her Instagram where she calls on those who voted for Trump including her husband.
I awake this morning with feelings of relief and gratitude that my country resisted an authoritarian demagogue who had put us on the brink of losing our democracy. The spontaneous celebrations in the streets of cities across this country and congratulatory responses from our friends and allies in countries across the world give credence to the fact that a majority of us had had enough of the hateful rhetoric and destructive actions of the 45th president of the United States.
But not everyone was celebrating last night. There were millions who supported Mr. Trump for countless different reasons. It is easy for many of us to see all Trump supporters as ignorant, misguided, lost souls who carried guns and stormed the vote counting centers wearing MAGA hats screaming “FRAUD!” But what about the people who remained at home silently disappointed and saddened by Joe Biden’s win? Your work colleagues and neighbors, friends and family members who, each for their own reasons, supported the Trump presidency. Good people like my dear husband Eddie.
What do we do about them?
We know our nation is deeply divided and needs to find a way to come together. One of President-elect Joe Biden’s most critical tasks is to find a way to bridge the divides this election exposed so clearly. He, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and the governing team they draw around themselves will do their best to create the “United” States we claim to be, but this work must begin in each community, neighborhood, workplace and home.
As hard as it was to beat this incumbent president, it will be much harder to heal the wounds that are left behind. For some of us who celebrate yesterday’s Biden/Harris win with all our hearts, a sadness remains. How we wish we could share our elation with those we love.
2020 has been a looking glass showing the harder yet necessary truths we must confront as a country. It’s time to continue doing the work to become a better society while recognizing each other’s differences and learning to set those aside for the greater good.
