Sisko Electrofanatik welcomes Marbox to his record label Gain Records, and it’s a thundering three-track EP that also includes a remix by Mozzy Rekorder.
It’s an all-Italian EP with the record label and both of the featured artists all hailing from the country. Gain Records is a platform that has helped springboard the career of many an up-and-coming artists, but it also featured tracks and remixes from established names such as Dok & Martin, Fatima Hajji, Tom Wax and Ramon Tapia. This is the first time that Marbox has featured on Gain Records, but he joins the imprint’s roster with a proven pedigree due to his releases on other labels such as Odd Recordings, JAM, Codex and Riot. He has made a splash on the international scene with his gritty style of bone rattling techno with support coming in from DJs such as Amelie Lens.
Mozzy Rekorder has made Gain a regular outlet for his upbeat techno tracks with infectious synth hooks and pounding percussion, but his music can also be found on other imprints such as Terminal M and 100% Pure.
First up is the original mix of the EP’s title cut “Unconventional”. A brutal track with a slamming kick drum and ominous atmosphere cut by sweeping pads. Its gritty sound design is at its most prominent in the suspense of the breakdown which is defined by a breakbeat percussion loop. Mozzy Rekorder’s remix of “Unconventional “adds a new pulsating bassline and an acid lead synth that transforms the track into a whole different beast. “Green Eyes Speaking” brings proceedings to a close by lifting the energy to a whole new level. Its percussion sounds like it’s powered by industrial hydraulics and the booming kick drum gives it a cavernous sound while the synths create foreboding tension.
